MHS - Women's Soccer / May 31, 2021 By Kasey McDowell
It was a record-breaking year for the Mulvane High School women's soccer team as they crossed several milestones this season. The girls won the regional championship for the first time in the program's history. They won the state quarterfinals game and the semifinals game to make it to the state championship game and finished in 2nd place in 4-1A state. Along the way, several school records were broken as well.
In the semifinal game versus Louisburg on Friday, May 28th, the Wildcats found themselves down by one in the second half as Louisburg scored first but Karlie Kanaga sent a perfect through ball to Emma Hoffman who zipped the ball into the net to tie up the score at the 25:17 mark of the second half. With 11:46 left in the game, Hoffman sent a high pass down toward the goal which Kanaga was able to get control of and send it into the net to go up 2-1. The Wildcats were able to hold on for the win to send them to the state championship game.
Rylie Schiffelbein guarded the Wildcats net and finished the game with 12 saves with 13 shots on goal.

In the state championship game versus Bishop Miege on Saturday, May 28th, the Wildcats had trouble getting the ball into the net as Bishop Miege took the game 4-0. The Cats did have one goal with a perfect cross from Emma Kolbe to Karlie Kanaga who kicked the ball into the net, but the ref called the goal off because of an offsides, a call that the crowd found questionable. Rylie Schiffelbein was solid in the net with 17 saves out of 21 shots on goal.
In the end, the Wildcats finished in 2nd place in the 4-1A state tournament, a finish that is the best in the team's history and one that every player, coach, and fan should be proud of. The Wildcats finished with a 15-5 record, the most wins in a season in the program's history.
"It's been a road you know, we talked about it on the first day of the season, I told them 'You girls are the program of the school team-wise and you gotta believe that. Now here we are May 29th and they kept going at it, we took our lumps along the way, like I said they stay together and show up every day and work," said Mulvane soccer coach Jesse Myers. "They just keep going hard and I'm really proud of them."
