The MMS boys basketball go 5-3 in the mid-season shootout, 8th boys 4-0 and 7th boys 1-3.

The Mulvane Middle School teams had their mid-season shootout on Saturday, the 7th graders at Circle and the 8th graders at Prairie Hills. The 8A team had no trouble against Circle as they won the game 52-23. The Cats took the lead during the first half, going into halftime up 31-14. The Cats closed out the second half of the game by outscoring Circle 21-9 and got the win 52-23. Braylon Barnes led the Cats with 15 points in the game. Hudson Myers also broke into double digits wtih 12 points.

The nail-biter of the day was the 8A team against Prairie Hills as the Wildcats went into halftime down 17-22, but the Cats had a great 3rd quarter to tie the ballgame up at 36-36. The 4th quarter was evenly matched, but the Cats found themselves down by 3 with around 10 seconds left and Hudson Myers drained a 3 to tie the ballgame and force overtime. The Cats held off Prairie Hills in OT and got the 53-50 win. Hays Ensley led the Cats with 17 points on the evening and Hudson Myers again finished with 12 points.

The 8B team had no trouble against Circle as they won the game 26-10. It was neck and neck in the first half as the Cats and Circle were tied 6-6 going into halftime. The boys closed out the second half of the game by outscoring Circle 20-4 and got the win 26-10. Colter Light led the boys with 11 points in the game.

The 8B team took care of business after falling behind 4-6 in the first quarter. The Cats won the second quarter and were ahead at halftime 11-7. The boys won the second half, outscoring Prairie Hills 20-10 for the 31-17 win. Ethan Hankins led the boys with 10 points in the match.

The 7A had trouble breaking through the Circle defense all evening as they fell 20-44. Circle jumped out ahead of the Cats in the first half as the Cats went into halftime down 16-23. The boys were outscored in the second half by 4-21 and fell 20-44. Parker Kraft led the Cats with 15 points in the game and Kane Cuthbertson finished with 5 points.

The 7A team had a shootout with Prairie Hills as they were neck and neck for most of the ballgame but fell just short. A tough second quarter was the main difference in the game for the Cats as they fell just short 38-40. Parker Kraft led the Cats with 19 points in the game and Jeter Tatum finished with 8 points and Kane Cuthbertson finished with 7.

It was a hard-fought game between both teams as the 7B team faced Circle and the boys fell just short. Circle jumped out ahead of the Wildcats in the first half as the Wildcats went into halftime down 16-18. The Wildcats were outscored in the second half 8-10 and fell 24-28. Brock Garnica led the Cats with 12 points in the game.

It was a nail-biter of a game as the 7B team faced Prairie Hills but the Wildcats came out on top by 2 points. The boys fell behind in the first half, going into halftime down 6-10. The boys closed out the second half of the game by outscoring Prairie Hills 20-14 and got the win 26-24. Wyatt Ryherd led the boys with 11 points in the game.

The 8A and 8B teams are still undefeated on the season, but sitting at 8-0 and the 7A team is sitting at 2-6 and the 7B team is sitting at 5-3 on the season. The boys will be back in action on Monday, February 6th at home versus Rose Hill.
