MHS - Men's Basketball / February 3, 2023 By Kasey McDowell
The men's basketball team traveled to Clearwater on Tuesday, January 24th for a non-league matchup against the Indians during the girl's tournament week. The Varsity team had no trouble against Clearwater as they won the game 58-37. The Cats jumped out ahead quickly in the first quarter with a 19-5 lead. The Indians made a comeback in the second quarter but the Cats took a 28-19 lead into halftime. The Cats won both quarters in the second half to secure the victory. Kaiden Abasolo led the Cats with 27 points in the game and Aiden McKee finished with 12 points. Both Abasolo and McKee led the Cats in rebounds with 7 each.
The JV team faced a tough Clearwater team and the game came down to just a few points, and the boys came out on top 51-45. The Cats had a monster 2nd quarter, outscoring Clearwater 21-2. Clearwater won both quarters in the 2nd half, but the Cats held on for the win. Cooper Slayton led the Cats with 15 points on the evening.
The Fr/So team won 3 out of the 4 quarters against the Indians and the Cats won 40-29. Grey Sanders led the boys with 8 points in the game.

The Cats, who were down a few players due to injury and sickness, hosted the Collegiate Spartans on Tuesday, January 31st for another non-league matchup. The varsity team had trouble getting points rolling in the first quarter as they fell behind 3-17. The Cats played a tough game for the next 3 quarters but were unable to make up the points and fell 44-65. Gavin Wayman led the Wildcats with 14 points on the evening.
The JV team had a high-scoring game against the Spartans but fell 59-73. Shannon Fuller and Cooper Slayton led the Wildcats with 18 and 11 points in the contest. The Fr/So team faced a tough Collegiate team and fell 34-55. Ryland Snyder and Grey Sanders led the Wildcats with 7 points each in the game.
