The MMS boys basketball teams faced Haysville and Rose in in opening week, 8th boys sweep and 7th boys split.

The Mulvane Middle School boys basketball teams kicked off their 2022-23 season last week as they hosted Haysville on Tuesday, January 17th, and traveled to Rose Hill on Thursday, January 19th. The 8A team went straight to work in their opener and went up 25-12 against Haysville. The Cats had a great second half as well and closed out the game 60-41. Hays Ensley led the Cats with 25 points on the evening and Jack Entwisle broke into double digits with 18 points.

The 8B team had no trouble against Haysville as they won the game 47-13. The Cats jumped out ahead in the first quarter with a 12-2 lead and blanked Haysville in the second quarter and took an 18-2 lead into halftime. The Cats won the third quarter and went into the fourth up 35-7. The Wildcats coasted the second half and got the 47-13 win. Breken Downs led the Cats with 18 points in the game.

The 7th-grade boys opened their season as well against Haysville and the 7A boys were neck-and-neck all game as the teams were all tied up 22-22 until the 4th quarter where Haysville was able to break open the game, outscoring the Cats 22-6. The Wildcats fell 28-44 in the contest. Parker Kraft led the boys with 15 points on the evening.

Haysville was able to jump on the 7B team in the first quarter 10-2 and the Cats were unable to make up the difference as they fell 18-25. Fenton Smith led the Wildcats with 6 points on the evening.

The boys traveled to Rose Hill for their second game of the season and the 8A team had a shootout with Rose Hill as they were neck and neck for the entire ballgame. The Cats and Rockets were tied after the first quarter 8-8. The Cats lost the second quarter and were behind at halftime 23-26. The Wildcats won the third quarter and went into the fourth up 36-34. The Wildcats lost the fourth quarter but held on for the 46-45 win. Jack Entwisle and Hays Ensley led the boys with 11 points each in the thriller.

The 8B team took care of business and had a fantastic defensive effort in the second half holding the Rockets to just 2 points after going into halftime down 12-13. The Cats outscored the Rockets 17-2 in the second half for the 29-15 win. Grady Myers led the boys with 10 points on the evening.

It was a hard-fought game between both teams as the 7A team faced Rose Hill and the Wildcats came out on top 23-18. The Cats fell behind in the first half, going into halftime down 10-12. Rose Hill was not able to hang with the Cats in the second half and Mulvane got the 23-18 win. Parker Kraft led the boys with 9 points in the contest.

The 7B team had a pretty close matchup against the Rockets and were able to grab the lead in the first half 8-6 and were able to hold on for the 24-18 win. Jaxon Morris led the boys with 7 points in the game.
