MHS - Men's Basketball / December 18, 2022 By Kasey McDowell
The Mulvane men's basketball team closed their December schedule last week as they hosted the Winfield Vikings and traveled to Circle for two league matchup games. The Cats hosted the Winfield Vikings on Tuesday and took a 39-31 lead into halftime. The Cats increased their lead in the 3rd quarter to 19 points. The Vikings tried to mount a comeback in the 4th quarter but the Cats were able to hold on for the 76-68 win. Freshman Manny Myers led the Cats with 27 points in the game and was clutch in the last quarter going 8 for 8 from the free throw line. Junior Aiden McKee had another great game with 24 points and 5 rebounds. Freshman Parker Clubb led the Cats on the boards with 6 rebounds.
The JV boys went down to the wire against Winfield but fell just short 47-51. The Cats were led by freshman Parker Clubb who finished with 14 points in the game. The freshman/sophomore game also went down to the wire and the Cats won by 1 point in a wild overtime finish 51-50. Sophomore Dylan Mow led the Cats with 11 points in the game.

The Cats traveled to Circle on Thursday for their last games of December. The varsity boys were fairly close to the Thunderbirds except for the second quarter and the Cats fell 48-69. Junior Aiden Mckee had another very solid performance with 26 points. Junior Gavin Wayman also broke into double digits with 11 points. Wayman, Easton Groth, Logan Harness, and Parker Clubb all led the team with 3 rebounds each.
The JV boys had trouble getting the points to fall in the first half but were even with Circle in the second half with a 39-59 final score. Parker Clubb led the Cats with 8 points. The freshman/sophomore team was tied with Circle 21-21 at halftime but a tough 4th quarter found the Cats down and unable to climb back, falling 41-60. Reed Hackleman led the Cats with 14 points and Brady Nelson had a good game with 12 points.

The varsity team is sitting at 2-4 on the season and 1-1 in league play. The JV boys are also at 2-4 on the season and the freshman/sophomore team is sitting at 2-3. Mulvane will return to action on January 5th, 2023 on the road at Augusta.
