The varsity girls finished in 4th place at Douglass & Kanaga selected to All-Tournament Team. C-Team finishes in 2nd.

The Mulvane varsity and JV volleyball teams hosted their first triangular of the season last Tuesday, September 20th as McPherson and Augusta came to town for AVCTL D3 league matchups. The Wildcats had a very tight match against McPherson, but falling in both games by 2 points (24-26, 23-25). The Cats bounced back in the nightcap and defeated Augusta 2-0 (25-19, 25-22).

Senior Emily Schmidt led the cats in kills with 13 and she also had 17 digs. Senior Karlie Kanaga led the Cats in digs with 20, and junior Ashlyn Alumbaugh led the team in assists with 16 and freshman Charlie Richardson finished with 15 assists. 

The JV team had a great night with a 2-1 win over McPherson (23-25, 28-26, 15-4) and a 2-0 win over Augusta (25-19, 25-12).

The varsity team participated in the Douglass Invitational this past Saturday and came home with a 4th place finish. The girls defeated Bluestem 2-1 (25-19, 15-25, 25-22) to kick off the pool play. The girls faced a tough Garden Plain team next and fell 0-2 (13-25, 15-25). The Cats finished pool play with a 2-1 win over Winfield (25-19, 24-26, 25-15). In bracket play, the Cats faced the number 1 seed Hillsboro and fell 0-2 (13-25, 6-25). The girls faced Augusta in the 3rd place match but fell 0-2 (21-25, 23-25) for a 4th place finish.

Senior Karlie Kanaga had a monster tournament and finished with 59 digs and 6 aces and was selected to the Douglass All-Tournament Team. Senior Emily Schmidt led the team with 39 kills in the tournament and finished with 28 digs. Junior Ashlyn Alumbaugh finished with 47 assists and 17 digs and freshman Charli Richardson was near identical with 46 assists and 16 digs. Junior Teagan Garrison had a good tournament with 23 kills and 31 digs and sophomores Madi Cunningham and Makenna Treat also had double digit kills with 21 and 11 respectively.

The C-Team had a great tournament this past Satruday at Clearwater, bringing home a 2nd place finish. The girls started the tournament with a 2-0 win over Clearwater (25-16, 25-17) and followed that up with a 2-0 win over El Dorado (25-8, 25-12). The girls fell to Andover 1-2 (22-25, 25-17, 7-15) to finish out pool play. The girls defeated Andover Central 2-0 (25-17, 25-13) in bracket play and fell to Andover 1-2 in the championship match (25-22, 23-25, 11-15) for a 2nd place finish.

The Varsity and JV girls will be back in action this evening at Collegiate. They will have the 2nd and 3rd matches of the evening as Collegiate will face El Dorado in the first matches starting at 5:00 PM.
