The Mulvane Volleyball team made the early trip to Winfield High School on Saturday, August 27th to kick off their 2022-23 season, getting in 5 games on the day and going 2-3 with wins over Winfield and El Dorado.
The Cats started the 8:00 AM match against the Winfield Vikings, taking the first game 25-19, losing the second game 22-25, and winning the third game 25-16. The Cats faced a tough Ark City team next and fell 0-2 (21-25 and 20-25) to the Bulldogs. Next up in pool play were the El Dorado Wildcats. The green and white made quick work, winning 2-0 (25-9 and 25-19) to end the morning pool play.
The afternoon games were against a couple of tough opponents. The Wildcats grabbed the first game against the Trinity Knights, but they forced 3 games and the girls fell 25-18, 8-25, and 19-25. Mulvane had to face Ark City again and fell 0-2 in the final match of the day, with close scores 21-25 and 22-25.
Senior Emily Schmidt led the team in aces (9) and kills (33) in the tournament. Sophomores Madi and Lexi Cunningham and senior Jalin Lavers all finished in double digits in kills with 30, 20, and 13 respectively. Senior Karlie Kanaga, we call her "Karlie Hustle", led the team in digs with 75 on the day. Freshman Charli Richardson made her varsity debut on the year and finished with 7 aces and 62 assists. Junior Ashlyn Alumbaugh finished with 5 aces and double digits in assists with 32.
The Wildcats will be back on the court tomorrow, August 30th, at Augusta High School, starting at 5:00 PM.
