Comer drops in 25 as the Wildcats take down the Winfield Vikings in non-league matchup. JV & C-Team split.

The Mulvane men's basketball teams were back in action last night as they hosted the Winfield Vikings after a week off. The varsity boys jumped out ahead in the first quarter 18-15 and increased their lead in the second quarter, going into halftime up 33-26. The Cats had a great third quarter, adding 7 more points to the lead going into the fourth quarter up 51-37. The Vikings attempted a run the 4th quarter but the Cats were able to hold on for the 63-52 win. Senior Ian Comer had himself a game and led the boys with 25 points on the evening and also on the boards with 9 rebounds. Mason Ellis, Landon Coe, and Kaiden Abasolo all broke into double digits as well with 14, 13, and 10 points respectively.

The JV team had a shootout with Winfield as they were neck and neck for most of the ballgame. The boys took the 14-11 lead in the first quarter. The boys lost the second quarter but were ahead at halftime 25-23. The Cats won the third quarter and went into the fourth up 41-37. The Cats found themselves down by 1 point in the 4th but a last-second put-back from Easton Groth gave the Cats the 1-point win. Gavin Wayman led the boys with 17 points on the evening. Shannon Fuller, Easton Groth, and Ethan Kasperek all finished in double digits with 13, 11, and 10 points.

The C-Team had trouble getting points to fall against Winfield as they fell 39-59. The Cats and Winfield were tied after the first quarter 11-11. The Wildcats were outscored in second quarter and were behind at halftime 19-39. The Cats lost the third quarter and were behind 31-53 going into the fourth. The Cats won the fourth quarter but fell to Winfield 39-59. Brady Nelson and Nolan Fevurly led the boys with 7 points each on the evening.

The varsity team moves to 5-7 on the season and 1-4 in league play. The Wildcats will travel to Maize High School for a non-league matchup with the 5A team on Friday, February 4th.
