The men's basketball team go 2-1 at the Circle Tournament, defeat Parsons & Labette Co.

The Mulvane men's basketball varsity and JV teams participated in the Circle Thunderbird Classic tournament this past week, playing games against Independence, Parsons, and Labette County. The Cats faced Independence in the first game of the tournament last Monday, December 6th, and the game was very tight going into the 4th quarter with the Cats down 28-32. The Cats battled in the 4th quarter and found themselves up by 1 point with just a few seconds on the clock, but a last-second buzzer-beater by Independence gave them the win by 2 points. Ian Comer led the boys with 13 points on the evening and also on the boards with 9 rebounds.

The JV game was very similar and the Cats fell by just one point 33-34. Shannon Fuller led the boys with 15 points in the game.

A strong 26 point second quarter propelled the Cats into halftime with a 34-25 lead at halftime against Parsons in the second game of the tournament on Thursday, December 9th. The Cats were pretty even with Parsons in the second half and were able to maintain the lead for a 72-61 win. Kaiden Abasolo, Landon Coe, and Ian Comer all had fantastic games with Abasolo leading the Wildcats with 22 points in the game. Coe finished with 20 points and Comer with 19. Comer also led the Cats in rebounds with 12 boards.

The JV team had another nailbiter but fell just short 58-59 against the Parsons squad. Shannon Fuller led the Wildcats with 19 points again in the game.

The last game of the tournament was on Friday, December 10th against Labette County and the Cats jumped out ahead in the first half with a 33-7 lead. Mulvane won the 3rd quarter 10-8 and Labette tried to mount a comeback in the 4th but the Cats held firm for the 49-35 win. Kaiden Abasolo led the Cats with 20 points on the evening and Comer and Coe both broke into double digits with 15 and 10 points respectively. Comer once again led the Cats in rebounds with 9 boards.

The JV team had a tough second and third quarter and fell 36-50 to Labette County. Shannon Fuller led the Wildcats with 12 points in the game and Ethan Kasparek broke into double digits with 10 points.
