The Varsity Girls defeat Buhler to get first win of the season. Varsity and JV had long weekend of tournaments.

The Mulvane varsity and JV volleyball teams traveled to Buhler last Tuesday, September 7th for a triangular with Buhler and Augusta. The varsity girls split on the evening and got their first win of the season against the Crusaders 2-0 (27-25 and 25-21) and fell to Augusta 0-2 (13-25 and 18-25). The JV girls also split on the evening going 2-0 against Buhler (25-15 and 25-16) and falling to Augusta 1-2 (25-23, 12-25, and 12-15).

Jalin Lavers and Makenna Reekie both led the Cats in hits with 13 a piece on the evening and Karlie Kanaga also broke into double digits with 11 hits. Reekie led the team in kills with 5. Lavers and Legend Bell both finished 4 kills each and Kanaga finished with 3 kills. Ashley Young, Addison Whisler, and Hailey Garnica all had 1 kill each. Kanaga led the team in assists with 14.

The varsity team traveled to Ark City this past Saturday for a tournament and struggled on the court and went 0-4 on the day. The Cats fell to Clearwater 0-2 (13-25 and 16-25), Andover Central 0-2 (6-25 and 14-25), Wichita Northwest 0-2 (17-25 and 15-25), and Campus 0-2 (14-25 and 18-25).

Jalin Lavers (Jr.) led the Wildcats in hits with 31 completed out of 45 attempts on the day. Legend Bell (Sr.) led the Cats in kills with 18 on the day and Lavers finished with 11 kills, Addison Whisler (Sr.) finished with 11 kills, and Karlie Kanaga (Jr.) finished with 9 kills.

Lavers, Tatum Heersche (Sr.), and Kanaga and  all finished in double digits in digs with 17, 15, and 10 respectively. Kanaga and Hailey Garnica (Sr.) led the team in assists with 27 and 25 on the day. Several Wildcats had aces on the day with Emily Schmidt (Jr.) with 3, Lavers with 3, Kanaga with 2, Bell with 2, Garnica with 2, and Whisler with 1.

The JV team had a full day at Conway Springs this past Saturday with 5 games against Haven, Conway Springs, Garden Plain, and Valley Center. The JV girls grabbed a win over Haven 2-0 (25-12 and 25-18). The Cats fell to Conway Springs 0-2 in a couple close games 21-25 and 24-26. Mulvane took Garden Plain to three games and got the 2-1 win with scores of 25-20, 15-25, and 15-12. The Cats fell to Valley Center 0-2 (25-27 and 16-25) and closed out the day with a couple of close games against Garden Plain but fell 0-2 with scores of 25-27 and 22-25.

The c-team opened up their season with a couple of wins at Augusta last Thursday, September 9th. They took down Clearwater 2-0 with scores of 25-7 and 25-11 and Augusta 2-0 as well with scores of 25-21 and 25-20.

The Varsity and JV will both host Andale and Collegiate tomorrow at Mulvane High School with matches starting at 5:00 PM. The c-team will host Circle and McPherson at home on Thursday with matches also starting at 5:00 PM.
