The Mulvane Men's Basketball team defeat Parson and Labette Co., open up league play this week.

The Mulvane boys basketball teams continued their winning ways as they faced a tough Parsons team on the road and hosted the Labette Co. Grizzlies at home to close out the Thunderbird Classic. The Cats defeated both teams to go to 4-0 on the season. This is the first time the Wildcats have started the season 4-0 since the 1986-87 season.

The varsity boys faced Labette Co. in the final game of the Thunderbird Classic, hosting the Grizzlies last Saturday, December 12. The Wildcats outscored the Grizzlies 16-10 in the first quarter and increased their lead even further with an 18-9 second quarter, going into halftime up 34-19 behind a strong performance by junior Ian Comer who scored 15 points in the first half. The Wildcats kept the Grizzlies at bay the second half, winning 66-43 to go 4-0 on the season.

Ian Comer led the Cats with 18 points and senior Trey Abasolo led the team with 7 rebounds. Trey dropped in 13 points, freshman Kaiden Abasolo finished with 9 points, and juniors Mason Ellis and Landon Coe both finished with 8 points each.

The JV boys played only 2 quarters again due to a shortage of players until after the Christmas break. The Wildcats and Grizzlies were evenly matched in both quarters going 7-7 in the first quarter and the Cats outscoring them 9-6 in the second, winning 16-13. The Coe brothers led the Wildcats with 4 points each and Sam Westfall and Kaiden Abasolo both finished with 3 points each, and Jacob Duncan finished with 2 points.

The varsity boys made the long trip to Parsons last Thursday, December 10th for the second game of the Thunderbird Classic. Coach Abasolo knew this game would be a tough matchup, but was confident that the Cats could pull out the win. The game was very close with the Cats going into halftime up 30-29. The Cats won the third quarter 23-20 and were able to hold off the Vikings for the 70-67 win.

Senior Trey Abasolo had a monster game leading the Cats with 30 points and 8 rebounds. Junior Landon Coe finished with 11 points and 4 rebounds, junior Ian Comer finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds, and junior Mason Ellis finished with 7 points and 2 rebounds.

The JV boys played only 2 quarters due to a shortage of players until after the Christmas break. The Wildcats jumped out ahead in a big 26 point first quarter behind 13 points from freshman Kaiden Abasolo, 7 points from sophomore Jordan Coe, and 6 points from junior Sam Westfall. The Cats finished strong with a 20 point second quarter for the 46-31 win. Abasolo led the Cats with 15 points and Jordan Coe and Sam Westfall finished with 11 points each.

The Wildcats will travel to Rose Hill today to open AVCTL D4 league play. The Cats split with the Rockets last year with Rose Hill winning the first matchup 48-51 and the Cats winning the second matchup 63-53.
