The Men's basketball team start the season hot with 2 wins behind strong returning starting group.

The Mulvane boys basketball teams kicked off their season last Friday, December 4th against Wellington and faced the Independence Bulldogs on Tuesday, December 8th in the first game of the Circle Thunderbird Classic.

The varsity boys faced Independence in the opening games of the Thunderbird Classic, hosting the Gorillas due to Covid (not all games are being played at Circle) and the Cats were fairly even with the Gorillas in the first quarter, but had a monster 24-9 second quarter and went into halftime up 41-21. The Wildcats outscored the Gorillas 37-16 in the second half and won easily 78-37.

The 41 point win is the largest point differential since the Cats defeated Belle Plaine by 42 on Jan. 24th, 2014. Junior Ian Comer led the Cats with 18 points and senior Trey Abasolo led the team with 8 rebounds. Junior Mason Ellis, senior Aaron Ballinger, and freshman Kaiden Abasolo all dropped in 3 3-pointers each.

The JV boys jumped out to an early lead and went into halftime up 22-17. The Cats had a monster 3rd quarter, outscoring the Gorillas 23-14. Independence had a good 4th quarter but the Cats held on for the 54-51 win. Freshman Kaiden Abasolo led the Cats with 18 points and junior Jacob Duncan and sophomore Maurice Fuller both dropped in 10 points each.

The C-Team boys had no trouble with the Gorillas as they blanked them in the second quarter and went into halftime up 22-4. They kept them at bay in the second half and took the win 39-12. Freshman Shannon Fuller led the Cats with 13 points with sophomore Jax Gerber scoring 6 points and freshman Gavin Wayman dropping in 5 points.

The varsity boys kicked off their season hosting the Wellington Crusaders last Friday, December 4th. The Cats and Crusaders were fairly evenly matched with Wellington going into halftime up 29-27. The Cats brought the thunder in the third quarter, outscoring the Crusaders 18-6 and holding on for the 62-55 win. Senior Trey Abasolo led the Wildcats with 21 points and also led the Cats with 14 rebounds. Junior Ian Comer had a great game as well, dropping in 19 points and junior Landon Coe broke into double digits with 10 points.

The JV boys had a tight game against the Crusaders behind the 14 point effort by junior Jacob Duncan and 10 points by sophomore Maurice Fuller. The boys went into halftime up 30-29. They were outscored by 2 in the 3rd quarter but won the 4th quarter 12-4 for the 55-49 win.

The C-Team boys had no trouble with the Crusaders as they controlled the game from beginning to end. The Cats won the first half 27-9 and the second half 33-20 for the 60-29 win. Freshman Shannon Fuller led the Cats with 11 points and sophomore Jax Gerber finished with 10 points. Freshman Aiden McKee dropped in 9 points for the Wildcats.
