MHS - Women's Basketball / January 13, 2023 By Kasey McDowell
The Mulvane women's basketball team hosted the Buhler Crusaders last Tuesday and made the long trip to McPherson on Friday for a couple of AVCTL D3 games. The Varsity team had a close game with Buhler at home and the Cats took a 13-9 lead into halftime. The Cats increased their lead in the third quarter to 18-11. Buhler tried to make a run in the fourth quarter, but the Cats were able to hang on for the 26-23 win. Teagan Garrison led the Ladycats with 11 points on the evening and Ashlyn Alumbaugh led the Cats on the boards with 6 rebounds in the game.
The JV team faced a tough Buhler team and the game came down to just one point and the girls fell 19-20. The Cats fell behind in the first quarter 4-10 and went into halftime down by 7 points. The Wildcats won both the third and fourth quarters but were just 1 point shy by the final buzzer. Kinley Kendrick led the Cats with 8 points on the evening.
The Fr/So had trouble breaking through the Buhler defense as they fell 6-23. The Wildcats fell behind in the first quarter 0-12. The Cats dropped in 6 points in the second quarter but were unable to stop the Crusaders in the two-quarter game. Aaliyah Zimmerman, Jaryn Baker, and Elle Everhart all had 2 points each in the game.

The Wildcats made the long trip to McPherson on Friday to face the #2 team in 4A and the Wildcats hung tough in the first half, going into halftime down 18-25. The Bullpups were able to break open the game in the third quarter with a 22-3 run. The Wildcats fought hard all four quarters but fell 30-60 to the Bullpups. Teagan Garrison led the Cats with 15 points on the evening and Lauren Young had a great game on the boards with 10 rebounds.
The JV girls had trouble breaking through the McPherson defense all evening as they fell 15-58. McPherson jumped out ahead of the Cats in the first half 26-8 and the McPherson defense didn't let up all second half. Kinley Kendrick led the Cats with 4 points in the game.
The Fr/So girls had a 2-quarter game against the Bullpups and the Cats dropped in 10 points in the two quarters to the Bullpups 21 points. Reece Lazier led the Wildcats with 3 points in the game.

The varsity girls are sitting at 4-5 on the season and 3-2 in AVCTL D3 league play. The girls will travel to Clearwater on Tuesday, January 17th and then have a small break before the Wildcat Classic the week of January 23 - January 28.
