MHS - Women's Basketball / December 19, 2022 By Kasey McDowell
The Mulvane women's basketball team closed their December schedule last week as they hosted the Winfield Vikings and traveled to Circle for two league matchup games. The Cats hosted the Winfield Vikings on Tuesday and jumped out ahead in the first quarter but the Vikings won the second quarter and the teams were tied 22-22 at halftime. Mulvane edged Winfield in the third quarter and the Cats were able to hold on to the lead for the 36-32 win. Junior Teagan Garrison led the Cats with 17 points in the game and Olivia Ellis and Ashley Young led the Cats on the boards with 6 rebounds each.
The JV girls had a tight game with Winfield that went down to the last seconds but the Cats fell 19-20. Freshman Grace Carpenter led the Wildcats with 6 points in the game. The freshman/sophomore girls played a 2-quarter game again and the Cats controlled the court in both quarters and got the 22-10 win. Sophomore Rylee Dieker led the Cats with 7 points in the game.

The Cats traveled to Circle on Thursday for their last games of December. The Thunderbird's defense held the Cats at bay in the first half and the Wildcats went into halftime down 20-29. The two teams were dead even in the second half, both scoring 7 points in the third quarter and 9 points in the fourth quarter, but the Cats weren't able to make up the points and fell 36-45. Sophomore Olivia Ellis led the Cats in the game with 12 points coming from four 3-pointers. Junior Ashlyn Alumbaugh had a great game in the paint with 8 rebounds to lead the Cats on the boards.
The JV girls had a shootout with Circle with the teams scoring a combined 97 points, but the Cats were edged 43-54. Freshman Grace Carpenter led the Cats with 12 points in the contest. The freshman/sophomore girls had a 2-quarter game again and the Wildcat's defense was too much for Circle and the Cats won 21-6. Grace Carpenter led the Cats with 6 points in the two quarters.

The varsity team is sitting at 2-4 on the season and 1-1 in league play. The JV girls are sitting at 0-6 on the season and the freshman/sophomore team is sitting at 2-2. Mulvane will return to action on January 5th, 2023 on the road at Augusta.
