The Mulvane girls basketball team opened their 2022-23 season hosting a tough Wellington team.

The Mulvane girls basketball teams kicked off their 2022-23 season at home versus a tough Wellington team, who is coming off an undefeated 2021-22 season and 3rd place at state. The Wildcats kept the score fairly close in the first quarter, but the Crusaders were able to break the game open in the second quarter and the Cats were down 11-32 at halftime. The Cats were competitive in the second half but fell 30-49. Lauren Young (Sr.) led the girls with 11 points and 9 rebounds on the evening and Teagan Garrison (Jr.) dropped in 10 points in the game.

The JV girls were right there with the Crusaders except for the second and third quarters, where the Cats were outscored 24-6 and eventually falling 18-39. Kierra Cain and Madison Phipps led the Cats with 4 points each on the evening.

The varsity and JV teams will be on the court again this evening as they take on Labette County in their first games of the Circle Thunderbird Classic Tournament. The game will be at home with varsity playing at 6:00 PM and JV at 7:30 PM.
