The Mulvane varsity football team traveled to Winfield in week 6 for a league matchup against the Vikings. The Cats and Vikings were both looking for their first win of the season, and the Cats came out on top 14-7 behind a strong defensive effort and a couple of Wildcat touchdowns. The Cats broke open the scoring at the 5:33 mark of the first quarter with a 2-yard run by Fisher Dye (So.). The Cats were held at bay until a little "switcheroo" play in the fourth quarter where quarterback Lucas Sorensen (Jr.) lined up as a receiver and Julien Myers (Sr.) found him for a 37-yard TD pass.
The Wildcat's offense finished the game with 211 total yards on 40 plays with 87 yards rushing and 124 yards passing. Lucas Sorensen finished with 87 yards on 6 completions, and also had 37 yards receiving on 1 reception and 1 receiving TD. Fisher Dye finished with 63 yards rushing on 13 attempts and 1 rushing TD. Julien Myers finished with 35 yards rushing on 8 attempts and had 1 passing TD.
The defense had a great game, holding the Vikings out of the endzone until late in the 4th quarter and was led by Chase Dieker (Sr.) who finished with 6.5 tackles (3 solo - 7 assist), 2.5 tackles for loss (TFL), and 1.0 sacks. Julien Myers (Sr.) also finished with 6.5 tackles (5-3) and 0.5 TFL. Tyke Creekmore (Sr.) finished with 6.0 tackles (3-6) and 1.0 TFL and 0.5 sacks. Brayden Tatum finished with 5.0 tackles (4-2) and 2.0 TFL, and Ethan Irvine also had 5.0 tackles (3-4).

Scoring Plays:
The Freshman / Sophomore team hosted the Vikings on Monday, October 10th, and the Cats jumped on the board quickly with a 16-yard run by Curtis Caruthers. Hunter Landis added on another TD with a 25-yard run in the first quarter. The Cats tacked on two more scores in the second quarter with an 82-yard kickoff return by speedster Hunter Landis and a 12-yard TD pass from Manny Myers to Caleb Boor. The Cats tacked on two more scores in the second half with a 34-yard TD pass from Aiden Heckathorn to Brady Nelson and 4-yard TD run by Reed Hackleman.
The varsity will travel to McPherson this coming Friday for an AVCTL D3 league matchup against the Bullpups.
