The Mulvane varsity football team hosted Buhler in week 5 for homecoming and a league matchup against the Crusaders. The Cats and Crusaders both traded a couple of fumbles in their first possessions, but the Cats then drove down the field on their second possession and scored with a 50-yard TD pass from Lucas Sorensen (Jr.) to Shannon Fuller (Jr.). The Cats were kept at bay the rest of the game by the Crusader defense.
The Wildcat's offense finished the game with 175 total yards on 41 plays with 35 yards rushing and 140 yards passing. Lucas Sorensen finished with 140 yards on 9 completions, and also had 22 yards rushing on 10 attempts and 1 passing TD. Sophomore Fisher Dye finished with 20 yards on the ground. Chase Dieker (Sr.) and Shannon Fuller (Jr.) led the Cats in receiving with 54 yards each and Trenton Davis (Sr.) finished with 33 yards.
The defense had a good game and was led by Trenton Davis (Sr.) who finished with 10.0 tackles (7 solo - 6 assist). Chase Dieker (Sr.) finished with 8.0 tackles (7-2) and also 3.0 tackles for loss. Maurice Fuller (Sr.) finished with 5.0 tackles (5-0) and 1.0 tackles for loss. Kaiden Abasolo finished with 4.0 tackles (2-4), 0.5 sacks, and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Defense Cont: Garrett Olson with 4.0 tackles (1-6), Jordan Coe with 3.5 tackles (1-5), 1.0 sacks, and 2.0 tackles for loss. Ethan Irvine with 3.5 tackles (1-5), Noah West with 3.0 tackles (1-4), 0.5 sacks, and 1.0 tackles for loss, Brayden Tatum with 2.0 tackles (0-4), Parker Richardson with 1.5 tackles (0-3), Shannon Fuller with 1.0 tackles (1-0), Ethan Kasperick with 1.0 tackles (1-0), and Aiden Heckathorn with 0.5 tackles (0-1).

Scoring Plays:
The fall homecoming ceremony was held at halftime with the royal court consisting of Jolie Ebersole, Ali McKee, Jalin Lavers, Kammie Schanz, Jax Gerber, Chris Dietrich, Colin Wyant, and Andy Huynh. Miss Jalin Lavers and Mr. Andy Huynh were crowned queen and king for the 2022 Fall Homecoming.
The JV squad had their third game of the year. The Crusaders jumped out ahead quickly in the first quarter with a couple of scores and added one in the second quarter for a 21-0 lead. The Cats got on the board in the third quarter with a 48-yard TD pass from Aiden Heckathorn to Gavin Clinesmith, but the Cats couldn't climb back in and fell 6-28.
The Freshman team had their first freshman-only game of this year, and it was a high-scoring affair between the two groups with 64 points total, but the Cats did not get on the board until the second half. The Cats first scored in the third quarter, being down 0-30, with a 34-yard TD run by Hunter Landis. Quarterback Manny Myers had a nice 71-yard TD run in the third quarter as well for the Cats. Kurtis Caruthers rounded out the Cats scoring in the fourth with a 32-yard TD run. The Wildcats fell to the Crusaders 20-44.
The varsity will be back in action this Friday as they travel to Winfield for an AVCTL D3 league matchup with the Vikings.
