The Mulvane football team kicked off its 2022 season with a long trip to Coffeyville, fall in overtime in close game.

The Mulvane varsity football team made the long trip to Coffeyville to face Field Kindley last Friday, September 2nd, to kick off the 2022 season. The Wildcats and the Golden Tornadoes went toe-to-toe all game and the game ended in a 0-0 tie, going into overtime. Field Kindley was able to punch in a TD and a 2-point conversion and hold on to the 8-0 win. Both teams were working out some bugs in the first game of the season as turnovers and pentalties played a key factor all game with 9 turnovers between the two teams and 210 yards of penalties. 

The Wildcats offense finished the game with 117 total yards on 48 plays with 42 yards rushing and 75 yards passing. The quarterback duties were split between senior Julien Myers and sophomore Aiden Heckathorn. Heckathorn finished with 53 yards passing and Myers with 22 yards. Julien led the team in rushing yards with 51 on 15 attempts. Seniors Chase Dieker, Ethan Kasparek, and Trenton Davis all shared in receiving yards with 35, 25, and 19 respectively.

The Wildcat defense played a terrific game in all 4 quarters, allowing no scores by the Tornadoes, forcing 4 turnovers, and only around 200 yards of total offense. The defense was led by Trenton Davis who finished with 14 tackles (9 solo - 10 assist), Chase Dieker with 7 tackles (3-8), and junior Garrett Olson with 6.5 tackles (3-7) and also had 2.0 sacks and 4.0 tackles for loss. Senior Tyke Creekmore and Ethan Irvine both finished with 4.5 tackles and each had a sack and tackles for loss.

Defense Cont: Maurice Fuller 3.5 (3-1), Shannon Fuller 3.5 (1-5), Jordan Coe 3.0 (2-2), Kaiden Abasolo 3.0 (1-4), Julien Myers 2.0 (0-4), Ethan Kasparek 1.0 (1-0), Tucker Hargrove 1.0 (0-2), Brayden Tatum 1.0 (1-0), Noah West 1.0 (0-2), Andrew Huynh 0.5 (0-1).

The freshman and sophomore team kicked off their season this past Monday as Field Kindley made the long trip up for a 10AM game at Lyle Couch Stadium. The Wildcats struck first and quickly with a nice 62-yard TD run by sophomore Fisher Dye (PAT no good). The Cats scored twice in the second quarter with a 10-yard run by freshman quarterback Manny Myers (PAT Brady Nelson from Myers - 2pt) and freshman speedster Hunter Landis broke loose around the end for a 70-yard TD run (PAT no good). 

Freshman Reed Hackleman had the next Mulvane touchdown with a fantastic fingertip catch for a 25-yard TD reception from Myers (PAT no good). Landis finished out the Wildcats scoring with a 45 yard TD reception from Myers (PAT no good). Field Kindley was able to get a couple scores but the Cats finished with with a nice 32-12 win to start the season.

The varsity team will host Independence this Friday for their first home game of the season with a 7:00 PM kickoff. The JV & C-Team squads will make a long trip to Independence for 2 games on Monday, September 12th with the first game starting at 5:00 PM.
