The Mulvane baseball team fought hard but falls by 1 in the regional game, closes out 2022 season.

The Mulvane baseball team's 2022 season came to a close in game 1 of the regional tournament as the Cats faced Abilene at Pratt. The Cats scored first with 2 runs in the 3rd inning, but the Cowboys were able to square up the score with 2 runs of their own. Abilene grabbed the lead with 1 run in the 5th and the Cats were unable to generate any more runs in the game.

Freshman Nolan Fevurly pitched a phenomenal game with 26 batters faced, giving up 3 runs (only 1 earned run) on 3 hits, 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts.

The Mulvane Wildcats grabbed 4 hits in the game. Mason Ellis, Trenton Davis, Hunter Seier, and Parker Richardson each grabbed one hit each in the game for the Cats. 

The Mulvane Wildcats had 2 RBIs in the game with Hunter Seier and Parker Richardson both finishing with 1 RBI each.

Mulvane stole 1 base during the game with Brayden Tatum grabbing the only stolen base.

The Wildcats finished the season with a 10-9 record and 6-4 in league play, finishing in 2nd place in the AVCTL D4 behind the Collegiate Spartans. The Wildcats had 3 seniors finish the season batting over .400. Mason Ellis and Hunter Seier both finished with a .492 batting average and Ian Comer finished with a .424 batting average. These three led the Cats in hits as well with 30, 29, and 25 respectively. Seier led the team in RBI's the 20 runs batted in this season. The Wildcats as a team finished with a .345 batting avg, 170 hits, 107 RBIs, 138 runs scored, and 6 home runs.

Freshman Nolan Fevurly had a terrific freshman debut on the mound and led the Cats in wins, innings pitched, batters faced, strikeouts, and ERA. Fevurly finished with 4 wins, 31.33 innings pitched, 136 batters faced, 31 strikeouts, and a 1.34 ERA. Seier finished the season with a 2.56 ERA and 23 strikeouts against 68 batters. Julien Myers faced 100 batters with 13 strikeouts and a 3.50 ERA. The Wildcats as a team finished the season with a 5.15 ERA, 605 batters faced, 125 Runs allowed (86 earned), and 99 strikeouts.

The Wildcats had 5 seniors on the squad this year. #1 Mason Ellis, #2 Keaton Herd, #11 Cooper Schmidt, #12 Ian Comer, and #21 Hunter Seier. "We were obviously disappointed with how the season ended but overall this was a great group of kids to coach," said Coach Steve Nelson. "We will have a lot to replace after losing these seniors but we also feel our future looks pretty good. Needless to say, the ending does not tell the whole story. A great group of young men with bright futures and I’m proud I got to be a part of their time at MHS."
