The Mulvane girls basketball team defeats Winfield in second matchup in a week, sweep both games on the evening.

It was back to the regularly scheduled programming for the Mulvane girls basketball teams this week after hosting the Wildcat Classic last week. The Cats hosted the Winfield Vikings last night and were looking for vengeance after losing a heartbreaker by 1 in the tournament last week. The first quarter was even with both teams dropping in 10 points each. The Cats had a tough second quarter and went into halftime down 16-22. The third quarter was a close one again and the Cats had some work to do, down 23-30 going into the fourth quarter. 

The Wildcats came out with a vengeance in the fourth quarter and shut out the Vikings while dropping in 16 points for the 39-30 win. Madison Shaw hit 6 of her 8 free throws in the fourth and led the team with 13 points in the game. Teagan Garrison broke into double digits as well with 10 points and Karlie Kanaga finished with 9 points. Lauren Young led the cats on the boards with 5 rebounds.

The JV team had no trouble against Winfield as they won the game 44-13. The girls took the 8-6 lead in the first quarter. The Cats won the second quarter and were ahead at halftime 19-11. The girls won the third quarter and went into the fourth up 30-13. The Wildcats outscored Winfield in the fourth quarter 14-0 and finished with a 44-13 win. Madison Phipps and Reece Lazier led the girls with 9 points each on the evening.

The varsity girls move to 5-7 on the season and 2-2 in league play. The Cats are scheduled to face Andale tomorrow, Thursday, February 3rd in a rescheduled game from earlier in the season. Weather pending, the varsity game will start at 5:00 PM and the JV will follow the varsity game.
