The girls basketball team finishes in 3rd place in home tournament. Kanaga & Garrison All-Tournament team.

It was a wild week for the Mulvane girls basketball team as they hosted the 42nd Wildcat Classic. The tournament had 8 teams this year as opposed to 6 teams as it was the last six tournaments. The Wildcats started their tournament play against the Conway Springs Cardinals on Tuesday. The Cats started strong in the first half, building a 28-17 lead. The Cardinals bounced back in the 3rd but the Wildcats were able to hold on for the 44-40 win. Karlie Kanaga led the Cats with 15 points in the game and Ashley Young led the cats in rebounds with 9 boards.

The Wildcat's second game of the tournament was against the Winfield Vikings on Thursday. The Cats started strong again in the first half, going into halftime up 19-9. They retained their lead in the 3rd, but a tough 4th quarter for the Cats allowed the Vikings to climb back in and the Cats lost a heartbreaker 30-31. Teagan Garrison led the Cats with 11 points in the game and Madison Shaw led the Cats on the boards with 5 rebounds.

The girl's final game of the tournament was against Wichita North for 3rd/4th place on Saturday. North started the game on fire, scoring 11 straight and missing no shots. The Cats rebounded a bit and finished the first quarter 6-13. They came out strong in the second quarter, outscoring North 15-10, and went into halftime down 21-23. The 3rd quarter had lots of scoring as the Cats dropped in 17 points and North scored 19 and the Cats went into the 4th quarter down by 4.

The Wildcats were able to claw their way back in the 4th with some tough defense, holding North to just 5 points, and were able to get within 1 point with just a couple of minutes left in the game. A field goal by Kanaga put the Cats up by 1 point with less than 30 seconds left. Ashley Young made 1 of 2 free throws with just 16 seconds left. North put up a last-second 3-pointer but it rolled out of the bucket and the Cats got the 49-47 win. Kamryn Nolan led the Wildcats with 15 points in the game. Kanaga and Garrison both broke into double digits with 10 points each. Nolan and Madison Shaw led the Cats in rebounds with 5 boards each.

Junior Karlie Kanaga and Sophomore Teagan Garrison were selected to the All-Tournament team by the coaches. Karlie finished the tournament with 32 points and Teagan finished with 28 points. The full All-Tournament team was as follows:
