The Mulvane Football team closed out the 2021 season as regional champs and sectional runner-up.

MHS - Football / November 18, 2021 By Kasey McDowell

After Mulvane won the Regional Championship over McPherson, the Cats knew they were going to have a tougher test the next week against one of the top ranked teams in 4A, the Buhler Crusaders. The Cats had a great game plan going into the game and the contest was as predicted, a tough matchup between two great teams.

The Cats and the Crusaders defenses were the story of the first half as they traded possession back and forth between punts and a couple of turnovers forced by the Wildcats defense, a fumble recovered by Trenton Davis in the second quarter and an interception by Julien Myers late in the second quarter as the Cats and Crusaders went into halftime tied 0-0.

Buhler was able to strike first in the third quarter following a 68-yard run by Sam Elliott, the Crusaders were able to punch one in from 1-yard out a couple plays later. That score was the only one to be had the rest of the game as both defenses clamped down again for the rest of the game and the Cats fell 0-7 in a tough game.

The Wildcats offense finished with 185 total yards with 133 passing and 52 rushing. On the ground, Ellis led the charge with 49 yards on 12 attempts. Ellis finished with 104 yards passing with 9 out of 25 completed. Hunter Seier led the cats in receiving with 93 yards on 5 receptions. Ian Comer finished with 38 yards on 3 receptions.
