The MMS girls basketball start season with some tough games, but 8A girls come away with two wins.

The Mulvane Middle School girls basketball teams kicked off their 2021 season last week as they traveled to Ark City on Monday, November 1st. The 8A girls came out on top of the Bulldogs in their season opener. The Cats jumped out ahead in the first half with a 17-11 lead at halftime. Ark City was not able to hang with the Cats in the second half and the Cats got the 35-27 win. Kylie Schwanke led the Wildcats with 10 points on the evening.

The 8B girls had trouble getting points to fall against Ark City in a couple of quarters as they fell 13-38. Ark City jumped out ahead of the girls in the first half as the Cats went into halftime down 7-24. Ark City held the Wildcats at bay in the second half and they fell 13-38. Gracyn Crow and Sadie Williams led the Cats with 4 points each on the evening.

The 7A had trouble getting points to fall against Ark City as they fell 13-29. The Wildcats were only able to muster up 4 points in the first half. They scored 9 points in the second half but were not able to catch up to the Bulldogs and fell 13-29. Rhyan Parsons led the Cats with 6 points on the evening.

The 7B had trouble breaking through the Ark City defense all evening as they fell 10-30. The Cats fell behind in the first half 2-10. The Wildcats had a better second half, scoring 10 points but fell to the Bulldogs 10-30. Breann Noell led the girls with 4 points on the evening.

The MMS girls made the long trip to Prairie Hills on Thursday, November 4th for a league match with the tough Crusaders teams. It was a hard-fought game between both teams as the 8A team faced Prairie Hills and the Wildcats came out on top 25-23. It was neck and neck in the first half as the girls and Prairie Hills were tied 10-10 going into halftime. The girls closed out the second half of the game by outscoring Prairie Hills 15-13 and got the win 25-23. Kylie Schwanke led the Cats with 10 points on the evening.

The 8B game was also a close one but the Wildcats fell 25-30. The Wildcats took the lead during the first half, going into halftime up 15-13. The girls were outscored in the second half 10-17 and fell 25-30. Elle Everhart led the Wildcats with 10 points on the evening.

The 7A had trouble getting points to fall against Prairie Hills as they fell 2-31. The Wildcats were not able to find the net until the 4th quarter when Rhyan Parsons dropped in the only points for the Cats in the game.

The 7B girls had the same trouble against the Crusaders as they fell 2-35 with Breann Noell scoring the only points for the Cats.

The Cats will have their home openers on Monday, November 8th and will host Haysville West at the Mulvane Middle School with the first games starting at 5:00 PM.
