The Wildcats faced the Circle Thunderbirds, get the win and a new school record in the process.

MHS - Football / September 30, 2021 By Kasey McDowell

The Mulvane varsity football team traveled to Circle last Friday, September 25th for an non-league game against the Thunderbirds. The Wildcats were supposed to play them last year but the game was cancelled due to Covid. The Wildcats defense wasted no time as senior Trent Moses intercepted a pass on the first possession, giving the Wildcats great field position. Senior Mason Ellis was able to punch it in from 1 yard out a few plays later at the 9:43 mark for the Cats first touchdown (Chase Dieker PAT good). Circle answered with a score of their own but missed the extra point.

The Cats had a great second quarter as well as Ellis found senior Hunter Seier for a 95-yard touchdown pass, Seier using a stiffarm to break a tackle about 30-yards out. The 95 yarder is a new school record and breaks the old 91-yard record set by Tab Creekmore to Drew Ellis in 2018 at Buhler. Ellis then found senior Ian Comer for a 23-yard TD pass at the 4:44 mark of the secound quarter to give the Wildcats a 21-6 lead at halftime.

Ellis found Seier again in the third quarter at the 9:14 mark for a 25-yard TD pass to give the Cats a 28-6 lead. The Thunderbirds would answer one final time and the fourth quarter was a defensive battle as the Cats hung on for the 28-14 win. It was a great defensive effort all game as well as a phenominal game offensively as the Wildcats finished with 381 total yards to 256 for Circle. Ellis finished with 17 completions out of 26 attempts for 315 yard passing with 3 touchdowns versus 2 INT's. Seier finished with 219 yards receiving on 9 receptions and 2 touchdowns. Junior Julien Myers finished with 3 receptions for 45 yards and Ian Comer finished with 4 receptions for 42 yards and 1 touchdown.

On the ground, Ellis led the charge with 45 yards on 14 attempts and 1 touchdown. Myers finished with 21 yards on 13 attempts.
