MHS - Football / September 10, 2021 By Kasey McDowell

The Mulvane Middle school football teams traveled to Ark City for week 2 games on Thursday, September 9th. The 7th-grade team went into halftime tied 8-8 but opened up the lead in the second half with a 14 point 3rd quarter and was able to hold on to the 22-16 win to bring their record to 1-1 on the season. Quarterback Grady Myers was on fire with 2 rushing touchdowns (1-yard & 55-yard), and a 32-yard TD pass to Drew Miller.

"After a tough game week one, the 7th grade responded well earning the win.  They worked hard this week correcting week one mistakes and were much improved week two.  We still have more work to do but these boys are willing to put the time in to get it done," said Coach Beikman.

The 8th-grade team fell behind in the first quarter and had trouble gaining any momentum as they went into halftime down 6-40 and fell 14-48 as the clock ticked down to zero. Hunter Landis got the Wildcats on the board with a nice 75-yard kickoff return and Kurtis Caruthers scored for the Cats in the 4th quarter with a 12-yard run.

"We came up against a very talented Ark City team.  They shocked us early and we could never get much going.  We had a great kickoff return taken back for a touchdown but could not get much going on offense.  Our boys played hard but were just outmatched," said Coach Beikman.
