It was Shrine Bowl week last week and with that comes lots of events, including several for the Shrine Bowl Cheerleaders. The Mulvane Cheerleading team made the trip to Hutchinson last week and attended the 48th annual Kansas Shrine Bowl from June 23 through 26. The first day was competition day and the Cheer team placed 3rd out of 19 teams (180 cheerleaders total) with a routine put together by the 4 captains: Bella Larraga (Sr.), Cierra Milledge (Sr.), Taylor Shain (Sr.), and Abigail Malanchuk (So.).

The Shrine Bowl also has a competitive team, called the Elite team, that the juniors and seniors can try out for. Mulvane had 3 girls selected to the Elite Team: seniors Taylor Shain and Cierra Milledge as well as junior Eden Conrad. These girls received a medal and had to get up an hour before the rest to practice for their added routine during camp.

From the 36 girls chosen for the Elite team, they also select 8 cheerleaders who stood out for leadership and showmanship. Cierra Milledge was selected as one of the Elite 8 and received a plaque, cheer bag, and an Elite 8 jacket. There was also a cheer clinic for young girls in Hutchinson and they had a selection process based on cheer knowledge, for cheerleaders who could get to be a "big" and teach their "little" some cheers and a short routine. Mulvane had 2 of our girls selected to be bigs: junior Jolie Ebersole and sophomore Mariah Cowin. The Elite team danced before the football game on Saturday, the entire cheer group danced at halftime, and the bigs performed at the end of the third quarter with their littles.

The Shrine Bowl week was a great experience for the Cheerleaders and the girls did a fantastic job.
