The Mulvane Wildcats baseball team has been hitting the field hard the last couple of weeks in preparation for their first game in almost 2 years. The Cats will host the Clearwater Indians in the season opener on Thursday, April 1st, at 4:00 PM. The Cats were the regional champs and made a run in state in the 2019 season and finished in 3rd place in 4A, but their return trip was not to be last year due to the season being canceled. Much of the varsity squad from the 2019 season has graduated except for juniors Mason Ellis and Hunter Seier. The Cats have 3 seniors this year, Trey Abasolo, Tab Creekmore, and Caleb Perkins.
"We are very excited to start our season this year," said Coach Steve Nelson. "After losing our entire 2020 season we are just pumped to be getting a chance to play baseball. We are going to have to take some time to learn what all we have this year and where all of the players fit but I'm sure that is a common theme all over the place. Our boys have come out with great attitudes and have shown a willingness to work and play anywhere they are asked to play. As a coach, that is all I can ask. It should be a fun season and I'm excited to get started."
The Wildcats will have their annual alumni scrimmage this coming Saturday, March 20th at 11:00 am at the Mulvane Sports Complex. Come on out and get a preview of the Cats and catch up with some of the baseball alumni.
