The MHS girls go 2-1 in the Wildcat Classic and defeat Collegiate for 3rd place. Garrison & Young All-Tourney Team.

The Mulvane girls basketball team hosted their 44th Annual Wildcat Classic tournament last week with games on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. The first round of games featured Conway Springs vs Wichita Collegiate, Rose Hill vs Winfield, Ark City vs Campus, and Mulvane vs Wichita North. Collegiate, Ark City, and Rose Hill won their games.

The Wildcats had a shootout with Wichita North that took the teams into overtime for the most exciting game of the day. The Wildcats took the 16-7 lead in the first quarter but North rebounded in the second quarter to take a 1-point lead into halftime. The second half was very even and the score was 46-46 at the end of regulation. The Wildcats were able to win overtime 10-4 for the 56-50 win. Teagan Garrison led the girls with 21 points in the game and Ashley Young had a monster game on the boards with 14 rebounds.

Friday's games featured Conway Springs vs Winfield, Campus vs Wichita North, Collegiate vs Rose Hill, and Ark City vs Mulvane. Rose Hill, Conway Springs, and Wichita North won their games. The Wildcats faced the tough Ark City Bulldogs in the second round and the game was very close throughout the entire game, but the Cats fell 40-46 to the Bulldogs. Teagan Garrison led the Cats with 20 points and Ashley Young led on the boards with 8 rebounds.

The last round on Saturday featured Winfield vs Campus for 7th place, Conway Springs vs Wichita North for 5th place, Mulvane vs Collegiate for 3rd place, and Ark City vs Rose Hill for the Championship. The Wildcats jumped out ahead of Collegiate 18-7 in the first quarter but the Spartans closed the lead in the second and the Cats went into halftime up by just 1 point. It was all Wildcats in the second half as they won both quarters and got the 49-39 win for 3rd place. Teagan Garrison led the Cats in points and on the boards with 24 points and 5 rebounds.

Winfield defeated Campus for 7th place, Conway Springs defeated Wichita North for 5th place, and Ark City defeated Rose Hill for the championship.

Wildcats Teagan Garrison and Ashley Young were selected to the All-Tournament team and Garrison was selected as the Defensive MVP of the tournament. History was also made on Saturday! Teagan Garrison made the All-Tournament team all 4 years of her high school career and is the first Mulvane Wildcat ever to accomplish this in the 44-year history of the tournament. There have been only 3 other girls to reach this feat in 44 years.
