The MHS girls basketball team played 3 tournament games last week. Garrison and Phipps on All-Tourney Team.

The Mulvane High School girls basketball team participated in the Circle Thunderbird Classic last week and the girls faced Labette County, Independence, and Parsons in the tournament and the three games were decided by 5 points total. The girls started by making the long trip to Labette County on Tuesday and came home with a close 46-44 win. The Cats were up by 5 points as the buzzer sounded, but Labette made a last-second 3-pointer, and the Cats came home with a 2-point win. Teagan Garrison led the girls with 18 points on the evening as well as on the boards with 8 rebounds.

The JV team took care of business in the first half of their game, going into halftime up 20-11. The Wildcats kept up the good work and got the 40-29 win. Kylie Schwanke led the Cats with 13 points in the game. Gracyn Crow had a 17-point performance in the Fr/So game as the Wildcats won 39-29.

The Wildcats hosted the Independence Bulldogs in game 2 of the tournament on Thursday and the teams were neck-and-neck all night. The Wildcats went into halftime up 22-15, but the Bulldogs had a 12-point third quarter to take a 1-point lead into the fourth quarter. The Wildcats had a 1-point lead as the seconds ticked down, but the Bulldogs sank a last-second shot to get the 34-33 win. Teagan Garrison led the girls with 16 points in the game and Ashley Young led the Cats on the boards with 10 rebounds.

The JV team had no trouble against Independence as they won the game 28-11. The Wildcats had a strong defensive effort as they held the Bulldogs to just 5 points in the first three quarters. Kinley Kendrick led the girls with 9 points on the evening.

The Wildcats finished up the tournament against Parsons at Circle and it was another barn burner for the Cats. The girls went into halftime down 18-22 and the teams were even in the third quarter. The Wildcats made up the 4 points in the fourth quarter to force overtime, all tied up 44-44. Parsons was able to hold off the Cats for the 51-49 win. Teagan Garrison led the girls with 22 points in the game and Ashley Young led the Cats on the boards with 9 rebounds.

The JV team played just two quarters against Parsons and the Cats came away with a 25-10 win. Kierra Cain led the Cats with 7 points on the evening.

Teagan Garrison and Madison Phipps were selected to the Thunderbird All-Tournament team by the tournament coaches. Garrison finished the tournament with 56 points and 11 rebounds. Phipps finished the tournament with 11 points and 16 rebounds.

The girls will be back in action at Winfield on Tuesday, December 12th.
