The Mulvane Middle School football teams closed out their season last Thursday on the road against the Wellington Knights. The 8th grade team faced a very tough Wellington team who jumped out ahead in the 2nd quarter with 2 scores. The Cats were able to get on the board in the 4th quarter with a 68-yard kickoff return by Fenton Smith, but the Cats fell 6-36 to the league champions.

"We came up against a really good Wellington team," said Coach Beikman. "They are league champs for a reason. Our kids played hard the entire game but we just could not get any offense going. This group of kids improved every week this season and I look forward to seeing what they will do in the future."

The 7th-grade boys were in a defensive battle all game long with the Knights. The Wildcats struck first in the second quarter with a 1-yard run by Easton Workman and the 2-point conversion by Jacob Hooten pass reception from Beckett Frazier. The Knights were able to score in the third quarter, but the Cats kept them out of the endzone on the 2-point conversion attempt and were able to hold on for the 8-6 win.

"We were able to end our season with a win, which we needed," said Coach Beikman. "Our defense played great this game and all season. We were in every game this year but just struggled to find ways to score. I look forward to seeing how much this group will progress by next season. They are great kids and are a fun group to coach."
