The Wildcats and Crusaders combined for a total of 95 points in last weeks game, but Cats fall to Buhler.

The Mulvane varsity football team traveled to Buhler on Friday, September 29, 2023, for a league matchup against the Crusaders. It was a high scoring affair with a combined total of 95 points, but the Cats fell with a final score of 36-59. Buhler capitalized on a couple of short field opportunities in the first half and the Cats found themselves down 14-25 at halftime. The Wildcats scored on a 26-yard pass from Manny Myers to Lucas Sorensen and a nice 71-yard TD run by Fisher Dye in the second quarter.

Fisher Dye scored all the touchdowns for the Wildcats in the second half as well. In the third quarter, Fisher broke free for a 57-yard run. He then returned a fumble recovery 33 yards to the house. In the fourth quarter, he made a great diving catch in the endzone from Myers for a 29-yard TD reception.

The Wildcat's offense finished the game with 369 total yards on 48 plays with 170 yards rushing and 199 yards passing. Manny Myers finished with 199 yards on 15 completions out of 29 attempts and 2 passing TDs. Fisher Dye had a heck of a game and finished with 157 yards rushing on 13 attempts and 2 rushing TDs. Fisher Dye finished with 59 yards receiving on 5 receptions and had 1 TD reception. Kaiden Abasolo finished with 56 yards receiving on 4 receptions, and Lucas Sorensen finished with 50 yards on 3 receptions and 1 TD reception.

The Wildcat's defense was led by Dylan Rogers who finished with 8 tackles (5 solo - 6 assist). Kaiden Abasolo finished with 5 tackles (1 solo - 8 assist) and 1.5 tackles for loss. Brady Nelson finished with 6.5 tackles (6 solo - 1 assist). Hays Ensley finished with 4 tackles (2 solo - 4 assist), 1.0 tackles for loss, and 1.0 sacks. Shannon Fuller finished with 4.5 tackles (4 solo - 1 assist) and 0.5 tackles for loss.

The JV squad hosted the Crusaders on Monday, October 2nd. The Wildcats jumped on the board first with a 58-yard run by quarterback Grady Myers. Buhler scored next with a punt block return for a TD. The Cats scored two more times with Myers on a 49-yard run and a terrific 96-yard run just before the close of the second quarter. The Cats didn't score any in the second half but the defense was able to hold off the Crusaders. The final score was 20-14 in favor of the Wildcats.

The varsity is sitting at 3-2 and JV is sitting at 4-1 on the season. Tomorrow is homecoming for the Wildcats as Winfield comes to town with kickoff at 7:00 PM.
