The Mulvane varsity and JV football teams remain undefeated after taking down the Augusta Orioles.

The Mulvane varsity football team hosted Augusta on Friday, September 15, 2023, for a league matchup against the Orioles. The Wildcats were looking to extend their win streak to 3 games, and they did just that with a 31-28 victory in exciting fashion. The Orioles scored first on a 35-yard run, but the Wildcats answered with a 24-yard run by quarterback Manny Myers, then after a Garrett Olson interception, the Cats scored again on a 25-yard pass from Myers to Lucas Sorensen.

The second quarter was all Orioles and the Cats went into halftime down 14-28. The third quarter however was all Wildcats as they tied up the game with a 22-yard TD pass from Myers to Sorensen and then a 1-yard run by Myers to bring the score 28-28. The fourth quarter was a defensive battle, but the Wildcats defense recovered a fumble down in Wildcat territory and brought in senior kicker Aiden McKee, who drilled a 26-yard field goal through the uprights to bring the score to 31-28. The Cats were able to hold on for the win.

The Wildcat's offense finished the game with 453 total yards on 60 plays with 220 yards rushing and 233 yards passing. Manny Myers finished with 201 yards on 15 completions out of 25 attempts and 2 passing TDs. Fisher Dye finished with 125 yards rushing on 22 attempts and Myers finished with 95 yards on 12 carries and 2 rushing TDs. Lucas Sorensen finished with 128 yards receiving on 8 receptions and had 2 TD receptions.

The Wildcats defense was led by Kaiden Abasolo finished with 11.5 tackles (8 solo - 7 assist), 3.5 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks. Noah West finished with 5.5 tackles (3 solo - 5 assist), 0.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks. Shannon Fuller finished with 4 tackles (3 solo - 2 assist) and 0.5 tackles for loss. Tucker Hargrove finished with 3.5 tackles (2 solo - 3 assist) and 1.5 tackles for loss. Garrett Olson finished with 3 tackles (1 solo - 4 assist) and 0.5 tackles for loss.

The JV squad traveled to Augusta on Monday, September 18th for a game against the Orioles. The Cats jumped on the board in the first quarter with a nice 54-yard run by Grady Myers, and he tacked on two more TD runs of 14 yards and 44 yards in the first half with Grady finding Hudson Myers for a 2-pt conversion in the last TD of the half. Hunter Landis found the endzone in the third quarter with a nice 42-yard run with Kurtis Caruthers adding the 2-point conversion. Kurtis also found the endzone in the fourth quarter with a 4-yard TD run. The Wildcat defense clamped down for the entire game, allowing only 6 points as the Cats won 34-6.
