The Mulvane varsity football opened up their 2023 season last Friday by hosting the Field Kindley Golden Tornadoes from Coffeyville. This is the 6th time the Wildcats have played Colleyville and the Cats were looking to avenge a 0-8 loss from last year. The Wildcats did just that, defeating the 'Nados 28-25.
The Wildcat's offense finished the game with 213 total yards on 46 plays with 103 yards rushing and 110 yards passing. Manny Myers finished with 110 yards on 14 completions out of 18 attempts and 3 passing TDs. Myers also rushed 13 times for 44 yards. Fisher Dye finished with 59 yards rushing on 15 attempts and 1 rushing TD. Lucas Sorensen finished with 52 yards receiving on 4 receptions and had 2 TD reception(s). Kaiden Abasolo finished with 5 receptions for 35 yards and 1 receiving TD. A new face for the Wildcats, senior Aiden McKee went 4-4 in extra point kicks in the game.
The Wildcats defense was led by Kaiden Abasolo who finished with 5 tackles (3 solo - 4 assists), 3.0 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. Reed Hackleman finished with 5 tackles (3-4), 1.0 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks. Tucker Hargrove finished with 3.5 tackles (2-3), 0.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks. Noah West finished with 3 tackles (1-4) and 2.5 tackles for loss. Shannon Fuller finished with 3 tackles (2-2) and 1.0 tackles for loss.

Scoring Plays:
The JV squad made the long trip to Coffeyville on Monday, September 4th, and the Cats jumped on the board quickly with an 8-yard pass from Grady Myers to Caleb Boor and a 19-yard pass from Myers to Brody Clasen in the first quarter. Neither team would find the end zone again until the Cats scored twice in the 4th quarter, a 16-yard pass from Myers to Jack Entwisle and a nice 34-yard TD run by Kurtis Caruthers. The Cats defense shut down the Golden Tornadoes for the 30-0 win.
