The Cats faced Clearwater in the first game at state, close out great 2023 season.

The Mulvane softball team made their first trip to state since the 2015 season this past Friday and the Cats faced the Clearwater Indians in the first round. After a rain delay and field issues caused a big delay, the Cats finally hit the field around 10 PM. The Wildcats and Indians were scoreless until the 5th inning until Clearwater was able to get a run across and then another in the 6th. The Cats had runners in scoring position a few times but were unable to get them across as they fell 0-5.

Jalin Lavers toed the rubber for the Cats and pitched all 7 innings, facing 33 batters, giving up 3 earned runs, 4 hits, and 9 strikeouts. The Cats managed 3 hits in the game with Avrie Warner, Makaylen Warner, and Madison Phipps each with one hit in the game.

The Cats finished the season with a 17-6 record overall, 7-3 in league play with a 2nd place finish, and regional champions. The Wildcats were led by senior Jalin Lavers who finished with a .415 batting average with 22 hits, 12 RBIs, and 13 runs scored. Junior Madison Phipps led the team in hits with 34 and finished with a .410 batting average, 21 RBIs, 8 doubles, 26 runs scored, and 3 home runs. Sophomore Reagan Witt led the team in runs scored with 29 and finished with a .373 batting avg, 11 RBIs, and 28 hits. Junior India Downs led the team in RBIs with 23 and finished with a .360 batting average, 27 hits, and 23 runs scored.

The Wildcats graduated 3 seniors: Jalin Lavers, Peyton Baggett, and Emma Kendrick. Jalin will be continuing her softball career at Johnson County Community College next year.
