"Heading to State!!" Put it on a t-shirt for two of the Mulvane Cross Country runners. Senior Campbell Williams and sophomore Chris Dietrich qualified for the 4A State Cross Country meet yesterday at the 4A regionals held in El Dorado. Williams and Dietrich have led the Wildcats all season and both earned All-League honors in the AVCTL D4 League meet, 1st team for Williams and 2nd team for Dietrich.
Campbell was the lone runner in the women's 5K race for Mulvane and she finished in a state-qualifying 6th place with a time of 21:48.64 (7:01 average mile). The winning regional time was 20:26.10. Campbell is not new to the state cross country meet as she was part of the regional championship women's team last season and they finished in 8th place as a team in the 4A State meet. She earned 1st team all-league honors last season as well.
Dietrich led the Wildcats in the men's 5K race and finished in a state-qualifying 10th place with a time of 17:44.18 (5:42 average mile). Senior Kyle Jones finished in 28th place with a time of 18:47.49 (6:03 avg mile) followed by junior Victor Salazar in 41st place with a time of 20:02.80 (6:27 avg mile), junior Jacob Duncan in 44th place with a time of 20:19.33 (6:32 avg mile), sophomore Owen Griffie in 50th place with a time of 21:46.91 (7:00 avg mile), and freshman Isaac Waterman in 55th place with a time of 24:05.95 (7:45 avg mile). The men's team finished in 7th place with 169 points and an avg time of 19:44.15.

The 4A-State meet will be held at Wamego on Saturday, October 31, 2020 with the 4A Boys race starting at 9:30 AM and the 4A Girls race starting at 10:05 AM.
