The Cats finished in 5th place in the Roadrunner Classic, Abasolo selected to All Tournament Team.

Tournament week has come and gone for the Mulvane Wildcats Men's Basketball who participated in the Roadrunner Classic in Chaparral and the Wildcats came home with a 5th place finish after going 2-1 in the tournament. The Wildcats first fell to Ark City in a close 65-69 game, then beat Wellington in fine fashion 71-53, and then beat Conway Springs 69-57. See the final RR Classic Tournament bracket here.

Junior Trey Abasolo was selected to the RR Classic All-Tournament Team. Trey finished the tournament with 73 points, 16 rebounds, and 15 assists. Junior Aaron Ballinger won the 3-point contest making 44 total edging out Eli Wiseman of Belle Plaine (40). Trey Abasolo finished in 4th place in the contest. The Cats faced Conway Springs on Saturday, January 25th for the 5th place game and the Wildcats made quick work of the Cardinals in the 1st quarter 25-10. Conway edged Mulvane in the 2nd quarter 16-12 but the Cats went into halftime with a 37-26 lead. The game was pretty even in the second half but the Cats won that half 32-31 and the game 69-57. Abasolo led the Cats with 27 points, Manis with 15, Comer with 10, Gerlach and Ellis with 5, Jansen with 4, and Billingslea with 3.

Mulvane faced Wellington on Friday, January 24th jumped on the Crusaders in the 1st quarter 23-10. Wellington edged Mulvane in the 2nd quarter 17-15 but the Cats went into halftime with a 38-27 lead. The Cats carried their momentum into the second half and outscored the Crusaders 21-12 in the 3rd quarter and sailed to victory with a 71-53 finish. Abasolo led the Cats with 23 points, Gerlach and Comer with 11 each, Manis and Ellis with 10, Jansen with 3, Coffey with 2, and Smith with 1.

The Wildcats faced a good Ark City team on Wednesday, January 22nd for the opening round of the RR Classic. The 1st quarter was pretty even but Mulvane took that quarter 17-15. A tough 2nd quarter where the Cats were outscored 5-18 had them down 22-33 at halftime. The Cats rebounded in the second half and had a great 26-17 4th quarter but fell just short with a 65-69 finish. Abasolo led the Cats with 23 points, Comer with 20, Manis with 14, Ellis with 5, and Gerlach with 3.

The men's team will have next week off as the women's team will host the Mulvane Wildcat Classic but will resume play on Tuesday, February 4th as they host Circle in a non-conference game.
