Former Mulvane student athlete Bill Dickey graduated in 1955 and went to Emporia State to play basketball, baseball, and track & field. Bill played basketball and track for Mulvane and he played baseball as well, but Mulvane did not have a high school baseball team at the time.
Mulvane was Sumwick League Champs in Basketball all three years that Bill played for Mulvane and the team went 55-11 during those years. They were also district champs his senior year in 1954-55.
Bill was inducted to the Emporia State Hall of Fame in 2005 for basketball, baseball, and track & field.
From Emporia State Hall of Fame website: "Dickey was a four year starter for the Hornet baseball team and also competed in basketball and track for ESU. He was a member of the AAU national champion mile relay team and threw a no hitter against Washburn. He spent 23 years as HPER chairman, professor and athletic director at Pittsburg State and 13 years in the same capacity at Adams State. He was instrumental in instituting Rule 10 for volunteer coaches with the Kansas State High School Activities Association."
