The Mulvane Wildcats Cross Country team traveled to Lake Afton on Thursday, September 26th for the Goddard Invitational and the women's team came home with some hardware. The ladies finished in 1st place as a team with a score of 69 (2-6-16-22-23) and an average time of 22:43, besting Augusta (74), Valley Center (90), Rose Hill (91), Pratt (95), Dodge City (107), and Andale (110).
Junior Anna Moon led the Wildcats with a 2nd place finish with a time of 21:21.2 (6:52.3 avg mile) followed by junior Campbell Williams in 7th place with a time of 21:57.2 (7:03.9 avg mile). Anna and Campbell earned individual medals by placing in the top 15. Senior Josie Russell finished in 20th place with a time of 23:06.9 (7:26.3 avg mile) followed by senior Emily Hankins in 27th place with a time of 23:34.3 (7:35.2 avg mile), sophomore Kaitlyn Frieden in 28th place with a time of 23:37.4 (7:36.2 avg mile), and sophomore Kamryn Nolan in 52nd place with a time of 25:30.1 (8:12.4 avg mile).
The Men's team finished in 9th place overall with a score of 196 (17-34-37-52-56) behind Augusta (59), Andale (104), Valley Center (112), Dodge City (128), Maize (129), Wichita West (161), Chaparral (187), Collegiate (189), and ahead of Goddard (208), Pratt (223), Rose Hill (271), and Campus (323).
Freshman Chris Dietrich led the Cats with a 17th place finish with a time of 18:47.5 (6:02.9 avg mile) followed by junior Kyle Jones in 36th place with a time of 19:37.7 (6:19.0 avg mile), sophomore Victor Salazar in 39th place with a time of 19:44.4 (6:21.2 avg mile), senior Justus Kidd in 54th place with a time of 20:16.8 (6:31.6 avg mile), senior Clement Heck in 59th place with a time of 20:29.5 (6:35.7 avg mile), and senior Robby Brown in 77th place with a time of 21:49.0 (7:01.3 avg mile).
The Women's JV team did not have enough runners to field a team score and senior Karstyn Nolan finished in 30th place with a 26:37.0 time (8:34.0 avg mile) followed by senior Ornella Garcia in 64th place with a time of 29:15.4 (9:24.9 avg mile) and junior Ashley Hively in 86th place with a time of 32:59.2 (10:36.9 avg mile).
The Men's JV team did not have enough runners to field a team score and senior Conner Hurly finished in 57th place with a 21:59.6 time (7:04.7 avg mile) followed by sophomore Jacob Duncan in 76th place with a time of 22:37.4 (7:16.9 avg mile), freshman Owen Griffie in 86th place with a time of 23:03.8 (7:25.3 avg mile), and senior JJ Mort in 141st place with a time of 28:57.3 (9:19.1 avg mile).
The Wildcats will travel to Harvey County East Lake on Thursday, October 3rd for the Berean Academy Invitational with the events starting at 4:00 PM.
