Mulvane Finishes League with 5-3 Record, Season with 7-11 Record.

The Mulvane Baseball Team wrapped up the regular season last Monday (5/6/2019) by traveling to Augusta for a non-league double header.

The Cats had no trouble in game 1 as they run ruled the Orioles 10-0 in 6 innings. Senior Nathan Klein led the Cats at the plate and went 3 for 3 with 1 RBI. Senior Cole Schmidt went 2 for 3 at the plate and led the team in RBIs with 4. Senior Drew Ellis and Junior Cole Diffenbaugh went 2 for 4 at the plate and knocked in 1 and 3 runs respectively. Juniors Gage Gerlach and Tanner Nelson also grabbed 1 hit each. Junior Gehrig Benson recorded the final RBI for the team. Junior Hunter Dye pitched a complete game shutout. He faced 19 batters and recorded 6 strikeouts, 4 hits, and gave up 0 earned runs.

Game 2 was much closer as the Cats battled back to take the game into extra innings. The Orioles punched in a run in the 8th inning to win the game 7-6. Cole Schmidt, Tanner Nelson, and Gage Gerlach all lead the cats with hits as they all went 2 for 4 at the plate. Hunter Dye, Junior Trey Greer, and Nathan Klein all recorded 1 hit each. Nelson led the team with 3 RBIs and Gerlach and Dye both recorded 1 RBI. Senior Caleb Heird started the game on the mound putting in 5 innings of work and faced 20 batters with 1 strikeout, 5 hits, and 2 earned runs. Freshman Hunter Seier relieved Heird and pitched 2/3rds of an inning facing 8 batters, 1 strikeout, 1 hit, and 2 earned runs. Diffenbaugh closed out the game and faced 12 batters with 4 strikeouts, 1 hit, and 0 earned runs.
The Wildcats will face Andale in the first game of Regionals on Tuesday, May 14th, at 2:00 PM at Andale.
