Eight Former Mulvane Wildcats finish up the 2014 football season at the collegiate level.

Former Mulvane offensive lineman Zach Burkhart (2011) is finishing up his senior year at Pittsburg State University. Zach started his college career at Butler County CC where the Grizzlies were the 2011 Region VI Football Champs and were ranked third nationally in the final NVCAA poll of the regular season. The Grizzlies were the 2012 Region VI Football champs as well. Zach was selected to the 1st Team 2012 KJCCC All Conference Football team as well as the 2012 1st Team All Region Football Team.

Zach signed with Pittsburg State University after finishing up at Butler. The Gorillas finished the 2013 season with a 10-2 record as Pitt State recorded the program's 20th 10-win season, including 18 times since 1985.  The Gorillas capped the 2013 season with a 90-28 Bowl Victory over Southwest Minnesota State University.

Pittsburg State (#5 Nationally Ranked) finished up the 2014 regular season with a 10-1 record and a share of the MIAA Conference championship (shared with Northwest Missouri) as well as its 18th all-time appearance in the NCAA Division 2 playoffs. The Gorillas defeated Harding in the first round of the playoffs and will face Minnesota State - Mankato in the second round on Saturday, 11-29-14.


Former Mulvane linebacker Trevor Shelton (2012) finished up his third season with the Benedictine Ravens as they posted a 7-4 (6-3) record for the 2014 season. The Ravens cracked the 2014 NAIA Coaches Top 25 poll with the #25 spot in the final poll of the season. Trevor spent his time at the outside linebacker position his first two years, and was moved to inside linebacker during the 2014 season. Playing behind a senior this year, Trevor hopes to solidify a starting position next season.

In the 2013 season, the Ravens finished the regular season with a 10-1 record (#8 NAIA Coaches Ranking) and a share of the 2013 HAAC League Championship. Benedictine fell to #11 Tabor in the first round of the NAIA Football Championship Series playoffs. The Ravens finished up the 2012 season with a 7-4 (5-4) record and #22 in the final NAIA Coaches Ranking.

Former Mulvane defensive back Payton Doramus (2012) finished up his first season at Wayne State College (Nebraska - Division 2). Doramus transfered to Wayne State after playing the last two seasons at Highland Community College in Kansas, where he was credited with 18 tackles and 6 pass breakups during 2013 season, helping Highland to a 6-4 record in always-tough Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. Payton was listed as the #1 safety on the Wayne State Wildcats recruiting board. The Wildcats finished the 2014 season with a 5-6 record and Payton played in 10 of 11 games and logged 17 tackles and 1 PBU.

Former Mulvane Tight End Justin Dickey (Justin's family moved to Germany prior to his senior year so he did not graduate from MHS but played football at Mulvane the previous years.) is finishing up his first year with Central Arkansas (D1-FCA). Justin played two years at Highland Community College along with Doramus before transferring to Central Arkansas. This season, Justin had 5 catches for 112 yards (22.4 Avg) and 2 touchdowns.

During the 2013 season at Highland, Justin logged 16 receptions for 227 yards.

His senior year in Germany, Justin received the following honors:

* All-European 2nd Team TE
* European All Star Team
* Ramstein HS Offensive MVP Football
* Ramstein HS Defensive MVP Football
* Ramstein HS MVP Track & Field
* European All Star Team


Former Mulvane Defensive End Tanner Thrash (2012) finished up his second year at Tabor College. Tanner signed with Highland County CC his first year out of high school and was redshirted during his freshman season. He transferred to Tabor College after his freshman year. The Bluejays finished the 2014 season with a 7-4 (5-4) record and fourth place in the KCAC league. Thy finished the season with a #24 NAIA Coaches Poll ranking. Tanner logged 11 tackles, 4.5 TFL - 22 yards, and 1.5 sacks during the 2014 season.

The Bluejays finished the 2013 season with a 10-3 (7-2) record and second place in the KCAC league. They lost to Grand View University in the NAIA Football Championship Series Quarterfinals.  The Bluejays finished the season with a #8 NAIA Coaches Poll ranking.

Former Mulvane linebacker Zach Haynes (2013) finished up his second year at Highland Community College. The Scottie’s ended the 2014 with a 6-5 (3-4) record and tied for 4th place in the KJCCC League Standings. Zach ended the season with 36 tackles, 3.5 sacks - 23 yards, 1 INT that he returned for a TD, and 1 fumble recovery. Zach’s great season earned him KJCCC Honorable Mention All Conference honors at the Linebacker position.

Zach plans on continuing his college football career and is currently talking to Division II schools. Some of the schools talking to Zach are University of Central Oklahoma, Missouri Southern State University, Arkansas Tech University, University of Arkansas at Monticello, Midwestern State University (TX), and Northern State University (SD).

Former Mulvane defensive back Kolby Fennewald (2013) finished up his second year at Butler County Community College for the Grizzlies football team.  He played special teams in the 2013 season and was moved to Linebacker in 2014 spring ball. Earlier in the 2014 season, Kolby was primary back up for all 3 linebacker positions, and playing on every special teams. Kolby started linebacker the last few games of the season. He finished the 2014 season with 57 Tackles, 3 Sacks - 11 yds, 2 Int, and 1 fumble recovery that he returned for a TD.

Kolby was named the week 10 KJCCC Defensive Player of the Week, the Academic Athlete of the week at Butler County back in September, and was also selected to the KJCCC Academic All Conference team for the 2013 Season.

The Butler Grizzlies finished out the 2014 season at 8-3 (5-2) and were #16 in final NJCAA polls. The Grizzlies finished out the 2013 season at 9-2 (6-1) and were the 2013 Region VI Champions, KJCCC Champions, played in the Graphic Edge Bowl (L 0-6), and were #6 in final NJCAA polls.

Kolby is hoping to continue his football career and is currently talking to some Division II schools. Some of the schools talking to Kolby are Northeastern State University (OK), William Jewel College (MO), Midwestern University (TX), University of Arkansas at Monticello, Fort Hays State University, Washburn University, Fort Lewis College (CO), and McKendree University (IL).

Former Mulvane running back Michael Mason (2014) finished up his first year at Butler County Community College for the Grizzlies football team. Michael primarily played special teams and was promoted to starting punter during his first season with Butler. He logged 46 Punts, 1818 yards, 39.5 Avg, Long 72, 15 IN20 as well as a couple tackles.

The Butler Grizzlies finished out the 2014 season at 8-3 (5-2) and were #16 in final NJCAA polls.
