The Mulvane boys basketball team faced non-league Buhler in close battle, Wildcats win by 3.

Friday, February 7, 2020, The Mulvane boys basketball team defeated state-ranked No.5 Buhler at home 66-63. 

Junior, Trey Abasolo, has continued his scoring onslaught on opponents, dropping 30 points on Buhler and currently averaging 23.6 points per game and 7.5 rebounds. Bringing his season point total to 331and 871 for his career this far. 

Sophomore, Mason Ellis, had a great game adding 15 points, 3 rebounds, and going perfect from the line, 5-5 to add to his tenacious defense.  

Senior, Gage Gerlach, had 10 points and 5 rebounds for the game including a few game-clinching buckets down the stretch, late in the fourth quarter. 

Sophomore, Ian Comer, added 8 points and 7 rebounds along with a tremendous defensive effort. Fellow Sophomore, Canon Smith and Senior, Luke Coffey both chipped in 2 rebounds each for the night.

The JV team came out strong in the first quarter and outscored the Crusaders 18-10. The Cats didn't let off the gas in the second quarter going 13-10 and up at halftime 31-20. The second half went much of the same for the Cats as they played a great game and outscored the Crusaders 27-20 and won the game 58-40. 

Mason Ellis had a terrific game and dropped in 17 points on the evening in just 2 quarters. Sophomore Tyson Lazier scored 9 points with three 3-pointers. Junior Aaron Ballinger and freshman Julien Myers both scored 8 points each. Ian Comer finished with 6 points and junior Canon Smith, junior Trent Billingslea, and sophomore Kelton Boster all finished with 2 points each.

The C-team had a tough first quarter and found themselves down 4-17. The second quarter was even 15-15 and the Cats went into halftime down 19-32. The third quarter didn't fare well for the Cats and they were outscored 8-19. They won the 4th quarter 12-9 but fell 39-60.

Freshman Ethan Kasparek has been consistent for the Cats this season and led the team with 16 points. Julien Myers had a good game and finished with 10 points. Kelton Boster and Christian Duranleau both finished with 4 points each. Logan Harness and Tyson Lazier both finished with 2 points each and Easton Groth finished with 1 point.

The Wildcats will open up league play again tomorrow against a tough Andale team.
