MHS - Men's Basketball / January 28, 2020 By Kasey McDowell

The Mulvane Middle School boys basketball team traveled to Haysville on Monday, January 27th for a league matchup with the Haysville West Gorillas. The 8th-grade boys swept the Gorillas with the A-team winning 47-38 and the B-team winning 44-15. The 8A team is 3-0 on the season and the 8B team is 2-1 on the season. The 7th team split with the Gorillas with the A-team falling 18-37 and the B-team winning 17-12. The 7A team is 0-3 on the season and the 7B team is 2-1 on the season.

"In the A-game, we started off owning the tempo. Haysville West went to man off the tip and we did a great job of spreading them out and making good cuts to the rim. Gavin Wayman had an amazing night and I was really proud of him for being on the floor tonight." said Coach Hargrove. Gavin had 18 points, 5 steals, and 12 boards. "It was one of those nights that you could tell Gavin could feel it. We adjusted to zone because 2 of their guys were quick and had got a couple of our guys in foul trouble."  said Coach Hargrove.

"Aiden McKee did a good job at the top of our D by not letting Haysville west have control of the tempo.  Haysville West went to a zone and we had to make some adjustments and after we did that we turned it up a bit. Abasolo had a huge 4th quarter for us scoring 9 points and finished with 12 points in the game. Lucas Sorenson and Josh Lien had some good quality minutes off the bench for us tonight. Tonight we had to battle a bit and the boys did a great job getting it done in the 4th." said Coach Hargrove. Aiden McKee finished with 9 points, Lucas Sorensen with 4, and Shannon Fuller & Garrett Olsen with 2 points each.

"In the B-game, our guys pushed on the gas pedal and never took it off. Colton Fleming owned the paint. Colton is new to basketball and he is really starting to show some basketball skills. Colton owned the boards with 11 rebounds and really owned his space tonight. Jet Jorns and Josh Lien did well in the paint also, they combined for 18 boards. Jet seemed to find his way to the ball all night. Cannon Lampe, Tucker Hargrove, Lucas Sorensen, Gavin Young, and Garret Booe kept Haysville West's guards from driving in on their Wheel Offense which really slowed them down. I really feel those guys did a great job of communicating and fighting through their screens and made it rough for Haysville West to get anything going on O.  This entire group does a great job of communicating and reading the other team." said Coach Hargrove.

Lampe finished with 8 points, Jorns with 7 points, Sorensen with 6 points, Lien & Fleming & Hargrove all with 5 points, Richecky & Clinesmith both with 3 points, and Young with 2 points.
