The Mulvane Men's basketball team fall to Clearwater as they open league play again after winter break.

The Mulvane men's basketball team hosted the Clearwater Indians on Tuesday, January 14th for the opening of league play after the winter break. The Wildcats kept all the games close but fell to the Indians 0-3 in the evening. The varsity boys are now 4-4 on the year and 1-2 in league play.

The varsity team had a good first half and went into halftime leading 33-31 and also had a good 3rd quarter, outscoring the Indians 19-16. The Cats couldn't quite hold on in the 4th quarter as the Indians won that quarter 23-12 and topped the Cats with a final score of 70-64.

Junior Trey Abasolo led the Cats with 19 points and senior Gage Gerlach (who missed Tuesday's game with an ankle injury) scored 18 points. Sophomores Mason Ellis and Ian Comer finished with 13 points and 10 points respectively. Senior Michael Manis and Junior Canon Smith both finished with 2 points each. Abasolo also led the Cats in rebounds with 10 and Ian Comer finished with 5 boards.

The JV boys had a close first half as they went into halftime down 26-29 but couldn't quite hang on in the last quarter and lost in a close one 44-48. Aaron Ballinger led the Wildcats with 17 points including 4 3-pointers. Ian Comer finished with 9 points, Mason Ellis and Canon Smith both finished with 6 points, Trent Billingslea finished with 4 points, and Jacob Duncan with 2 points.

The C-Team finished strong in the 4th quarter scoring 23 points, but couldn't quite make up the deficit as they fell to the Indians 43-51. Ethan Kasparek led the Wildcats with 14 points and freshman Julien Myers finished with 12 points. Chase Dieker and Jacob Duncan both finished with 2 points each and Kelton Boster and Christian Duranleau both finished with 3 points each, Logan Harness with 2 points and Sam Westfall with 1 point.

The Wildcats will host the Rose Hill Rockets this evening as they celebrate the 2019-20 Winter Homecoming.
