The Mulvane Girls Basketball team sweep the Spartans in the first AVCTL D4 league games.

The Mulvane Girls Basketball team kicked off AVCTL D4 league play against Wichita Collegiate and the girls swept the Spartans in the varsity and JV games. There was no C-Team game. 

The Varsity girls started strong in the first half with junior Haley Hughes scoring 8 points from 3 field goals and 2 free throws and junior Kaitlyn Klein with 2 free throws and junior Haley Chambers with a 3-pointer and 1 free throw, and senior Carson White with 2 points for 16 points total. The Cats defense held the Spartans to 8 points in the first half.

Collegiate outscored the Cats in the third quarter 13-7 and the Wildcats outscored them 10-9 in the 4th quarter to hold on for the win 33-30. Chambers and White both hit 3-pointers in the 2nd half and sophomores Amber Hansen and Kamryn Nolan added 4 and 2 points respectively. Freshman Karlie Kanaga added a point as well.

Chambers lead the team with 9 points and finished with 3 rebounds and Hughes finished with 8 points and 8 rebounds. White lead the team in rebounds with 9 and finished with 5 points. Klein finished with 4 points and 3 rebounds and Hansen finished with 4 points and 2 rebounds. Nolan finished with 2 points and 3 rebounds and Kanaga with 1 point and 4 rebounds. Junior Campbell Williams grabbed 2 boards and freshman Haley Shaw saw some floor time and grabbed 1 board as well.

Klein lead the team with 4 steals and White lead the team with 3 assists. Complete stats can be found here.

The JV team had a great first half as well and lead the Spartans 19-13 going into halftime. The 2nd half was similar to the varsity game as the Spartans outscored the Cats in the 3rd quarter but the Cats outscored them by 1 point in the 4th to hold on to a 35-31 victory.

Freshman Jadyn Stevenson lead the Cats with 10 points and Kanaga finished with 6 points. Junior Caylee Davis finished with 5 points followed by freshman Lauren Young with 4 points, sophomore Olivia Lampe with 3 points, juniors Cassidey Coon and Avery Dillon with 2 points each, and Haley Shaw with 2 points. Freshman Emma Kendrick finished with 1 point.

The Cats will travel to Wellington on Friday, December 20th for a league game and the last game before the Christmas break.
