The 7th grade girls basketball concluded their season last weekend in the Patriot League tournament, going 1-1 with a 28-14 win over Haysville West and a 16-29 loss to a good Wellington team.

"This group of girls began the season with limited experience playing together. Coach Hargrove and I enjoyed watching them learn how to play together as they learned each other's strengths and weaknesses. As a team we were reliant on playing aggressive defense, rebounding, and scoring in transition" said Coach Hansen.

"Our A team ended the regular season with an overall record of 6-7 and a league record of 5-5. Our A team could play competitively with any team we faced. We were in several games decided by 5 points or less. They are a resilient group that keeps fighting and never quits. In the league tournament we won the first round game against Haysville West 28-14. This game provided us with an opportunity to play all 15 girls on our roster in the varsity tournament.  In the second round we faced Wellington. The girls played hard, but due to some foul trouble and an inability to break their press we lost 16-29. Wellington went on to win league tournament 51-40 against Prairie Hills" said Hansen.

"Our B team ended the regular season with an overall record of 8-5 and a league record of 7-3. Our B teams defensive pressure caused fits for almost all of our opponents. They were really good at making the opposing team uncomfortable on offense. The B girls were really starting to click at the end of the season I wish they had an opportunity to play a league tournament" said Hansen.

Olivia Ellis lead the team in points this season and finished with 77 points, including 22 field goals, 4 3-pointers, and 23 free throws. Lexi and Madi Cunningham finished with 59 and 58 points respectively followed by Rylee Dieker with 32, Kierra Cain with 31, Jade Smallwood with 25, and Makaylen Warner and Makenna Treat with 23 points. "Keene and I try our best to teach the basics of the game while implementing some of the things the High School program uses. This group made a tremendous amount of improvement throughout the season and I look forward to watching them continue to learn and grow over their next 5 years in the Mulvane Girls Basketball Program. I’m thankful for the opportunity to coach this group of girls and I hope they enjoyed this season as much as I did" said Hansen.
