Mulvane basketball opened season against the Orioles. Varsity falls while JV and C-team grab wins on the evening.

The Mulvane men's basketball team opened up the season with a road trip to Augusta for a non-conference matchup against the ranked Orioles. The Orioles defense held the Cats to 29 points as they came out on top 62-29. Junior Trey Abasolo lead the Cats with 17 points and 4 steals. Senior Gage Gerlach finished with 8 points and sophomores Mason Ellis and Ian Comer finished with 2 points each. Comer lead the Cats in rebounds with 6 and senior Michael Manis finished with 4 rebounds.

The JV game was only two quarters as there was a shortage in players and not enough quarters to go around on the evening. The Wildcats dropped in 18 and 13 in the two quarters for a 31-27 win. Junior Aaron Ballinger was on fire from the 3 point line as he scored 16 points on four 3's, one field goal and two free throws. Mason Ellis finished with 5 points, junior Trent Billingslea finished with 4 points, junior Canon Smith with 3 points, sophomore Sam Westfall with 2 points, and Tyson Lazier with 1 point.

The Cats C-team started off the season in fine fashion with a 56-41 victory over the Orioles. Freshman Ethan Kasparek had a great game and lead the Wildcats with 20 points. Sam Westfall and Jacob Duncan both had great games as well and finished with 12 and 11 points each. Kelton Boster finished with 4 points and Tyson Lazier,  Christian Duranleau, Chase Dieker, and Ethan Tharp all finished with 2 points each. Easton Groth added one point as well.

The Wildcats will travel to Circle for the opening round of the Thunderbird Classic on Tuesday and will face Labette County with the JV game starting at 2:30 PM and varsity game starting at 4:00 PM.
