The mid season shootout has come and gone and the Wildcats faced off against the Circle Thunderbirds and the Augusta Orioles, both who are in the East division of the Patriot League. The Wildcats struggled against both teams and were swept 0-4 on the day.

"We knew going in that the Circle girls team was capable of scoring in the 50’s so we tried to adjust our defense and slow the game down. They were much bigger than us so we struggled rebounding the basketball" said Coach Hansen. Olivia Ellis led the A team in scoring with 6 points. Makaylen Warner, Jade Smallwood, and Lexi Cunningham all scored 3 points. Kierra Cain and Madi Cunningham scored 2 points each.

"Against Augusta, the girls struggled shooting the ball in the A game. Our defensive pressure in the 3rd quarter helped us to regain the lead. Augusta got hot in the 4th quarter scoring 12 points. They also made some critical free throws at the end of the game" said Hansen. Lexi Cunningham led the team with 6 points. Olivia Ellis and Kierra Cain both scored 4 points. Makaylen Warner, Rylee Dieker, and Madi Cunningham all finished with 2 points each.

The B girls against Augusta were leading through 3 quarters, but Augusta had a big 4th quarter outscoring the Cats 14-4 for the win. "Brodee Ferry played great in the B game scoring 8 points. Regan Witt and Izzy Loveless did a good job looking for their shot" said Hansen. Holley Henderson finished with 3 points and  Witt and Loveless finished with 2 points each.

"The mid season shootout provided us with some good competition and allowed us to try some new things against non league opponents. I’m excited to see what the second half of this season brings for this group of girls" said Hansen.

The Cats will host Prairie Hills on Monday in a league matchup with games starting at 5:00 PM.
