MMS Girls Basketball go 4-0 in Patriot League match-up against the Rose Hill Rockets

MHS - Women's Basketball / November 21, 2019 By Kasey McDowell

The Mulvane Middle School girls basketball teams traveled to Rose Hill for a Patriot League match-up last night and the Wildcats swept the Rockets 4-0 on the evening. "What can we say? The 8th grade girls like to make things exciting or very stressful depending on how you look at it!" said Coach Banzet.

The 8A girls topped the Rockets in a nail biting 26-24 game. "8A has got to figure out how to come out fighting in the 3rd quarter. We decided to make things really interesting by only scoring 2 points in the 3rd quarter and letting Rose Hill tie up the game at the end of the 4th quarter" said Banzet. Teagan Garrison went 4 from 4 from the line in the 4th quarter/OT to help seal the win for the Wildcats. Courtney Cross had a huge bucket from the left corner on an out of bounds play to keep us in the game and the other hero for the night was Addison Mackey who hit a shot under the basket on an assist from Madison Shaw. Leading rebounders were Madison Shaw and Teagan Garrison with 7 a piece and Courtney Cross had 5.

Next up is the Patriot League Shootout at Circle Middle School on Saturday, November 23. Both teams play two cross-divisional games. Mulvane will play Circle first and then Augusta.

The 7th grade girls swept the Rockets as well but in more dominant fashion with the A team winning 31-16 and B team 32-16.

"The girls are starting to play together on both ends of the floor. It’s been really fun to watch them learn and grow as a team. The A team pulled away in the 3rd quarter which gave us an opportunity to play a lot of our girls in the varsity game. That experience will be helpful as we head into our mid season shootout. Rylee Dieker played her best game of the year with 8 points. Makaylen Warner finished with 5 points and Olivia Ellis, Makenna Treat, and Lexi & Madi Cunningham all finished with 4 points each and Jade Smallwood finished with 2 points." said Coach Hansen.

The 7B girls started slow in the first quarter, only scoring 2 points but had a monster 2nd quarter with 16 points. MaKaylen Warner led the B girls to a huge lead going into halftime. MaKaylen finished with 13 points. "Both games were pretty physical, but our girls played tough. It’s always fun to win both games, the girls are playing with a lot of confidence as we approach the mid point of our season" said Hansen.
