Drew Ellis and Addy Schiffelbein Honored at All Star Best of KS Preps Banquet

The Topeka Capital-Journal hosted the Best Of Kansas Preps banquet last night in Topeka. The Best of Kansas Preps awards banquet is the Capital-Journal's way of saying thank you to the thousands of outstanding high school athletes, coaches, and fans who allow us to share their stories, performances and passions. Sponsored by Envista Credit Union and the University of Kansas Health System, the event honors the top performers in 22 sports. Awards were presented to the Outstanding Player of the Year in each sport, as well as Male Athlete of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year. The special guest speaker was Jordy Nelson, former Kansas State University All American and NFL Pro-Bowler receiver.

Drew Ellis was selected to the Football Best of Kansas Preps Team. Drew finished the season with 40 receptions, 815 yards, and 9 TDs. He finished with 18 tackles, 8 pass break-ups, and 4 interceptions with 141 int return yards. Ellis holds the school record for longest pass TD reception (91 yards) in a season, career receiving yards in regular season games (1571), and career TD receptions in regular season games (19). As a wide receiver this year, Drew earned All League - 1st Team, All Class 4A (KS Coaches Assn.), All Class 4A - Hon Mention (W. Eagle), and kansas-sports.com Top 100 Seniors. For defensive back, Drew earned All League - 1st Team, All Class 4A - 1st Team (TCJ), and All State 4A (Kpreps.com). Ellis was also a nominee for the 2019 KS Shrine Bowl All Star Team. Drew signed to play college football at Sterling College next year. Drew is a member of the Mulvane High School Wall of Fame.

Addyson Schiffelbein was selected to the Women's Bowling Best of Kansas Preps Team. Addy finished the season with a 601 series average and her best individual game was a 246. She earned 1st Team All League in the AVCTL league tournament, finished in 3rd place at the regional tournament and qualified for state, and finished in 3rd place in the 5-1A State Tournament earning a state medal. Addy was selected to the 4-1A All-Kansas Team by the KS Coaches Association. Schiffelbein was also the 5-1A State Champion in her sophomore season (2016-17).  Addy signed to bowl for the Newman Jets next year. Addy is a member of the Mulvane High School Wall of Fame.
