Mulvane Improved League Record to 5-3 After Split with Wellington

The Mulvane Baseball team traveled to Wellington last Thursday (4/25/2019) for a double header against the AVCTL D4 opponent. The Cats split with the Crusaders as Mulvane took game 1 and Wellington took game 2.

The Wildcats had a big 5 run 4th inning and a 2 run 6th inning to take down the Crusaders 7-4 in game 1. Senior Nathan Klein and Junior Gage Gerlach both led the cats with 2 hits out of 4 at bats. Klein also knocked in 4 out of the Wildcats 7 runs. Tanner Nelson, Drew Ellis, and Cole Schmidt all grabbed 1 hit in the game. Hunter Dye pitched a complete game and recorded the win for the Cats. He faced 31 batters and had 6 strikeouts, gave up 6 hits, and 2 earned runs.

The Cats had an early lead in game 2 but could not hold on as the Crusaders scored 4 runs in the the 5th and 6th innings. Junior Gehrig Benson led the cats in hits in game 2 going 2 for 3 at the plate. Klein, Gerlach, and Dye all recorded 1 hit in game 2. Cole Diffenbaugh pitched 5 innings facing 23 batters and had 2 strikeouts and gave up 2 earned runs. Cole Schmidt and Hunter Seier both saw some mound time as well, pitching 1 inning between the 2 of them.
Mulvane will host the Wichita Collegiate Spartans in a battle for 2nd place in league play tomorrow (5/2/2019). Andale has locked up 1st place in AVCTL D4. The Cats and Spartans are tied for 2nd place, both with a 5-3 league record. Game 1 will start at 4:00 PM at the Mulvane Sports Complex.
